"Racing robots" in the Ural Federal

    On January 10, at the Ural Federal University, on the floor of the GUK, regional robotics competitions "Robot Racing" were held. About 300 people from 25 cities of the Ural region took part in the competitions. The competition took place in 3 categories:
    "Beginners", which were provided by the Ural Federal University with robots for the competition;
    "Lovers" competed with their robots;
    "Professionals", a route of increased complexity was prepared for them.

    The main organizer of the event was the Department of Youth Science of UrFU. According to the head of the department, Alexei Barashev, “The Ural Federal University pays great attention to the development of student science, I am sure that it is necessary to create conditions for technical creativity in the school.”

    The event was opened by: Minister of Industry and Science of the Sverdlovsk Region Misyura A.V., Vice-Rector for Science of the Ural Federal University V.V. Kruzhayev, Head of the Department for Work with Enterprises S.V. Yaroshenko, Director of the Institute of Fundamental Education, UrFU I.N. Obabkov. Also during the whole event, the competition was monitored by the Deputy Minister of General and Professional Education of the Sverdlovsk Region A. Pakhomov.

    Within the framework of “Robot Racing”, an exhibition of the achievements of robotics at UrFU was organized, in which the project of a mobile telepresence robot created by A. Belousov, a student of the Mechanical Engineering Institute of UrFU, was of great interest.

    After the races, master classes were held for the participants. For "amateurs" a master class on the basics of 3D printing was held with the manufacture of a simple part on a 3D printer. The master class was conducted by the founder and leader of the first in the Urals Huxpace "Make-it-lab" Oleg Evsegneev.

    Two master classes were held in the “Profi” category: from Vladimir Pelevin, head of the robotics and intelligent systems laboratory of the Institute for Fundamental Education, and Alexander Lemekh, head of the robotics development laboratory of MMI UrFU.

    V. Pelevin told schoolchildren about the projects of the laboratory, explained the problems of navigation of a mobile robot in space. The theme of the A. Lemech workshop was autonomous flying robots. The schoolchildren were shown a video clip of tests of a robotic complex for rescue operations, developed by 9 leading universities of the European Union. At this master class, participants were invited to join the Laboratory to finalize the project of a flying robot as part of a unique educational project, Internet test drive, Hi-Tech direction.

    Separately, I want to note the Robotics Club of the Higher Engineering School of UrFU, which was one of the main organizers, developers of ideas, regulations and routes. The guys focused on the “Beginners” - schoolchildren who had never collected robots in their lives. Yegor Tryakshin told how to assemble an elementary robot from improvised means using commonly available components sold in any radio store. He tried not only to show where which components should be put, but also to explain in a language understood by the student how each component works.

    After the master classes, the organizers of the event announced the winners in each category. Among the “newcomers” the “Bortmekhaniki” team became the best, among the “amateurs” the “AnDor” team showed the best time, and the guys from the “Hachiko” team were the first in the “pro” category. Congratulations to the winners!

    Oleg Evsegneev, head of the Make-it-lab hackspace, shares his impressions: “I was glad to participate in organizing such a large-scale robotics competition! Long time to choose what to present to the winners. I wanted the prizes not only to stand on the shelf, but to contribute to the further development of the engineering thinking of the children. As a result, domestic electronic designers from Amperka handed in all three nominations. The main prize for the first place in the nomination “Pros” was a kit for assembling a 3D printer! ”

    The event turned out to be interesting, and most importantly - exciting. Here’s how the judge in the “Lovers” nomination, Alexander Tarasov, describes the race: “Many participants had a passion in their eyes, even those who didn’t get the first place were very happy about the improvement in their results, even if it was a whole second or even some hundredths of its shares. This is real sporting behavior worthy of respect! I am very glad that the participants received a boost of good mood, I hope they will remember this day and, of course, will go to our University to continue their journey in the field of robotics! ”The

    event was covered by representatives of regional media: TVIST Studio, Channel 4 and others. For numerous fans who could not come to the competition, a broadcast in the Internet was organized in real time.
