Stroking ASMR Brain

The Internet has an interesting property - it makes the features of the human psyche noticeable. Using the Internet, we find out what things we like (for example, kittens), and what repels (for example, lotus boxes). Relatively recently, in the same random way, an interesting and pleasant effect was discovered on the Internet, called the autonomous sensory meridional reaction (ASMR, ASMR). What is it?

Wikipedia (and RU EN articles have already appeared ) gives a rather vague definition of “a phenomenon of perception, characterized by a distinct pleasant sensation of tingling in the scalp or other parts of the body in response to certain visual, auditory and (or) cognitive stimuli”. The definition is bad because the incentives are not described in any way. At the same time, they can be distinguished:

    Sound stimuli

The main incentive / sign of ASMR is whispering or soft speaking. To it is often added rustling or scraping sounds - the rustling of paper, the creaking of nails on any surface, the hiss of escaping steam, and others. The effect of stimuli is enhanced by the use of 3D microphones that give a sense of the position of the sound, using accent or a foreign language in speech. A separate incentive is music.

    Visual incentives

Among visual stimuli, smooth hand movements and mechanical work (such as turning pages) are distinguished.

    Real / Role / Social

Another type of incentive is actions that you may encounter in reality, for example, visiting a hairdresser, or role-playing imitation of such actions in a video. You can also include videos that give a sense of concern and ownership.

    Susceptibility to ASMR

If you felt a goosebump while listening to music or visiting a hairdresser, then chances are good that you will like ASMR. In principle, there is no need for special efforts to check, just start, preferably with headphones, this video:

    Types of ASMR

The interest of users (millions of views on YouTube!) Has led to the fact that there are a lot of creators of ASMR video, for many tastes. Having searched a little, you can find the most pleasant voice, face or style. There is plenty to choose from.

Role-playing movie in a sci-fi entourage, plot - interplanetary tourism:

    Barbershop:

Walk in the woods, male voice:

Whispers and various rustling / scraping objects

    Tapping, notebooks, Russian language

Two-hour video of a working hair dryer. Judging by the number of views, someone likes it.

    Work mechanism

To date, there is no scientific work on the study of ASMR, and the phenomenon is waiting for its researchers. It seems to me that this effect lies mainly in the work of the brain, but the nervous system is also involved. According to observations on myself, on the one hand, similar goosebumps arise from some types of music, on the other hand, similar sensations arise when visiting a hairdresser in real life.

    I do not feel anything!

It's okay, people are different, you may have some kind of incentive for pleasure that we don’t have.

    Isn't that dangerous?

This is an ordinary sound, there is not even a claim to some special ways of working with the brain (as it was in the relatively recently popular binaural sounds). Accordingly, there should be no danger.

    Community and links

There is a good article with interviews with the authors of the ASMR video.
There was until recently (until the admin hit political activism) VK group .
Well, on YouTube this stuff above the roof , very different.
