Ultimaker 2
Make magazine named the Ultimaker Original in November 2012 "the most accurate and fastest 3D printer."
And I was waiting, waiting for the opportunity to touch at least the first model, and then - immediately the second!
I hasten to share with the Habr community what I saw.
What is Ultimaker 2 ?
Very beautiful video:
Layer thickness: up to 20 microns
Printing area 23 x 22.5 x 20.5 cm
Printing speed: 30mm / s-300mm / s
Movement speed: 30mm / s-300mm / s
Recommended plastic: 2.85 mm
Usage price: ~ € 0.05 / cm ^ 3 ( plastic and electricity)
Fully assembled and ready to go printer
Speed is what distinguished Ultimaker from the start of the project.
The printer allows you to wind upvoices speed on the go, while printing using the wheel on the right:
Moreover, this printer is the most silent of all that I have seen
Front view
Side panel made of matte plastic that diffuses light very stylishly.
The coil is mounted on the back.
Plastic feed system.
Minimalistic front panel.
Case materials - composite (aluminum-plastic-aluminum) and translucent matte plastic.
Glass, aluminum, heating element throughout the platform, springs, aluminum.
The platform is heated, the top layer is glass, a kapton is glued to it.
View from below. Calibration screws - 3 pcs.
The original cross-shaped design of the guides (cylinders) along the X and Y axes.
Reinforced guides along the Z axis.
The print head is made of metal with a Teflon insulator; it quickly heats up (220 ° C in 1 minute) and is equipped with a more accurate PT-100 temperature sensor instead of a thermocouple.
One can see a place under the second extruder, so 2x color printing will be soon.
Active coolers of the production part (controlled via software settings).
The printer is omnivorous: ABS, PLA, Laywood, Nylon, Laybrick, Bendlay
2.85 mm plastic, 750 g, recommended - Innofil3D PLA.
Juicy colors, but in reality - even juicier.
Cura is an open-source product, this software can be modified and improved by the efforts of users.
The software is specially “sharpened” for Ultimaker 2 parameters (for example, a thickness of 20 microns).
The downloaded / drawn 3D model after “slicing” in Cura is saved on the SD card, which is then inserted into the front panel and printing begins. Work through the SD card eliminates failures that may be caused due to a continuous connection to the computer (power surge, computer freezes, etc.).
In the near future, an upgrade is planned for Wi-Fi communications.
Now Cura "cuts" the model much faster. Ultimaker also developed UltiGCode, a G-code option that allows you to change material settings and the retraction process in the printer settings (rather than the slicer) without the need for re-slicing.

After downloading the detail from the Internet - I open it in Cura.
The program calculates how many meters of plastic will be required and how long it will take to print: The
"for beginners" mode is selected - no need to bother - choose from 3 points.
You can switch to the expert mode:
The program politely gives hints for each item:
There are different types of previews:
Transparent:
X-rays:
Layers: The
slider on the right is on the 60th layer.
The slider on the right is on the 31st layer.
We save all this to the SD card and insert it into the printer - it shows the time and meters:
Printing has gone:
You can change various parameters during printing.
You can speed up while printing.
14 minutes to complete printing:
Final touches.
The item is ready.
