How to calculate the time for designing interfaces of an online store
How much time does it take for a designer to draw a prototype interface?
We have accumulated some statistics for standard projects - mainly in the field of electronic commerce. And we want to share it.
Below is a table with a list of required (or very common) pages of the e-commerce site. For each page, we estimated the time to design it.
It is better to use our data with some restrictions.
In other words, statistics are useful for assessing the timing of design by a full-time specialist who has already done such work several times. And on the project “without creativity”, requiring only a solid implementation in a clear and adequate introductory.
Question from the audience: so if my designer already did something similar, let him evaluate it himself? Why do I need your statistics?
You ask - we answer: experts are not inclined to evaluate their work in small pieces and prefer to say something like "Week, no less." The point of their assessment is not in labor costs, but rather, in the date of issue of the result, taking into account parallel tasks. To believe or not to believe such an assessment of the terms is a purely intimate affair. We do not believe - and crush the task.
A side benefit that we have not been interested in for a long time (but which, as it turned out, is needed by customers): a plate helps to figure out which pages are included in a typical solution of an electronic sales site.
The list affects differently large and small customers.
How do we use these statistics ourselves? Everything is simple.
The whole chain takes a completely insignificant time. And the torment “How much should the designer draw?” Is forgotten, abandoned.
And now - the actual table.
We will issue in Excel format - pull in a personal.
Well, a few examples of what we call page prototypes. Because the degree of acceptable detail is still a holivarchik.

- You can estimate the total time for the development of projects of medium volume (from 15 to 50 pages). Some items will require more work, some less, but the amount will be quite accurate.
- You should not use these statistics on small (up to 15 pages) projects. Deviations in both directions do not cancel each other out, and the total error will be too great.
- If a designer takes up a page for the first time (that is, he does not yet have any ready-made developments), multiply the score by 2.5.
- If you are hiring a freelancer and not perplexing a full-time employee, multiply by 5.
- Deeply creative tasks are not included in the list of sample pages.

- Big: “Oh, that is, in two weeks it will not be possible to put together a site like“ like Yulmart ? ” And in two months, too, nothing? ”
- Small: “Yeah, that is, CMS must be chosen by looking at these and these pages, understandably.”

- The manager makes a list of pages that need to be developed, and more or less automatically receives the table “Page - design time”.
- The designer makes corrections to the manager’s assessment. The action, as it turned out, is rather ritual and mutually reassuring: the total estimate of terms for a manager and a designer differs by a ridiculous 2-3 hours.
- The manager, happy and satisfied, informs the customer of the exact interim and final dates of the approvals. And at the same time, the cost of work.
