Cisco localizes production in Russia

In mid-July, it became known that American telecommunications equipment manufacturers Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks had difficulties with deliveries to Russian law enforcement agencies due to US sanctions. So, Juniper stopped the supply of equipment to law enforcement agencies, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. And if nothing is heard from Juniper yet, then Cisco is going to localize production in Russia.

Needless to say, what is the share of equipment of these manufacturers in the Russian market. First of all, this concerns 10GE and 40GE switches (image taken from here ).

It is clear that Cisco will not want to lose such a tidbit in the market and now it will try to establish equipment manufacturing in Russia. And they’ll not just collect their pieces of iron here, like thisis already being done at the plant in Tver, and they will be launched under a new brand and the rights to manufactured products after signing the corresponding contract will be transferred to the FSUE EZAN . True, so far we are talking only about IP phones, complexes of engineering and technical security equipment and solutions to ensure the safety of mining workers (yes, the company is even engaged in this). But this is an interesting signal.

The volume of investment in the project in Cisco did not disclose. It is emphasized that the project is being implemented as part of long-term agreements reached in 2010 between Cisco CEO John Chambers and then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. At that meeting, Cisco “made a firm commitment” to invest $ 1 billion in enterprise development in Russia.

From myself I’ll say that sanctions in the field of IT have already begun to affect our work. So, one of my colleagues had problems with the purchase of equipment of a well-known brand. Another example is that a well-known company has closed access to software updates for their equipment. In the framework of recent events with a focus on China, it seems that we will soon be massively migrating to Huawei.

Have you already had time to reflect on legislative initiatives taken in the West?
