FSB Public Council proposes to ban Tor and anonymizing sites, to hold their creators accountable

Today I read on the Russian nationalist site Sputnik and Pogrom the news “The FSB wants to prohibit protection from electronic surveillance ”, based on the news published today by IzvestiaSiloviks propose to ban software that hides the user on the Web .” And this news is such that her hair should stand on end on her head!

The Public Council under the Federal Security Service of Russia (I’m giving its logo on the right) considered it necessary (probably at a meeting on May 29 ) to propose to the State Duma amendments to the law “On Information, Information Technologies and the Protection of Information” that would make all programs that mask information data illegaland IP addresses of users. This also applies to the Tor browser , and anonymizing sites that allow using a normal browser to go to a different site with a changed IP address (blocked for “extremism”, for “propaganda of suicide”, “propaganda of drugs”, and “pedophilia”) and read this site non-selectively (maybe secretly chuckling at Roskomnadzor secretly - who knows? ...). Now it will be no laughing matter.

The replicas of individuals cited by Izvestia in connection with this initiative are interesting.

Anatoly Grigoryevich Kucherena (member of the Public Council at the FSB, who in the 2012 election became Putin's confidant) stated directly to Izvestia that they were preparing recommendations to deputies on the need to impose responsibility for the creation of software that allows visiting prohibited sites. “Adopt a clear law that will impose sanctions that can deter programmers from wanting to create malicious software products,” Kucherena outlined the intentions of fighters with network anonymity.

The opinion of Leonid Leonidovich Levin (First Deputy State Duma Committee on Information Policy) boils down to the fact that anonymizers are used by people who intend to commit some illegal actions, or those who have something to hide.

The Sputnik and Pogrom website adds that after Tor and the anonymizers, the fight against VPN will inevitably begin - and I think this is quite fair, even with the gain: not only VPN, but also SSH, and behind them HTTPS, probably SSL in whole.

What will happen if this struggle with anonymity and secrecy is crowned with complete success?

It seems that the physical destruction of the remnants of network privacy will come - and they will establish a totalitarianism that Orwell did not imagine: Orwell has only television screens, but we have computers, computers!

And it’s sad to see that the establishment of this totalitarianism is carried out under the banner of confronting “extremism”, “child pornography”, “drugs” and “suicides”;I am not in vain putting these terms in quotation marks, because their use in the current law enforcement practice is largely arbitrary. We read about how, for "drugs," they closed the site about the game EVE Online (which described the use of fictional chemicals for fictional characters), for "suicide" - harmless humor like an article from Absurdopedia or Kaganov’s work (and in the so-called real world under the pretext of child suicide, they are selling the Death Note manga in the Sverdlovsk Region, although the whole region is named after one of the organizers of the murder of the Emperor’s children, but this doesn’t concern anyone), for “extremism” -nationally-targeted anti-alcohol propaganda (No. 1568 in the federal List of extremist materials ) or calls for responsibility of the authorities to voters (No. 292 in the same place). As for "child pornography" (actually intended for quite adult pedophiles), the need to combat its consumption on the Internet (instead of fighting its production in the real world, is inevitably associated with the real corruption of real children, for which unlicensed anonymous distributions the Internet just represent a direct threat to the economic, deprived of funding) is not quite obvious - and the question , given this minister, appeared to ignore.

About a month ago (more precisely, on May 6, 2013) in the blog post “ Black List 2.0, now with criminal penalties, ” I also argued that the bugbear “suicide” and “child pornography” could (and is) be used to combat the spread of modern Japanese culture, that is, with the spread of anime, manga, ranobé and visual novels: in many of these works it is not difficult to find erotic or thanatical motifs (partly reminiscent of William Shakespeare with his character, Juliet, who at the age of thirteen years managed and loved s Romeo and be done with them), it is easy to find children in situations of non-children.

Anime fans (and those based on the surveyup to a third of Habrahabr’s participants will be saddened) that the news that in just a month has passed since then, there has been serious preparation of public opinion on this subject.

Not only in New Zealand (as mentioned on the RT website ), but also in Russia an expert opinion is being prepared on classifying erotic animations as “child pornography”.

A group appeared on the social network "VKontakte" called "Anime against Veterans." Members of this group who consider themselves anime lovers (or simply play the role of animeshnikov) used the attributes of anime and slang animeshnikov to grossly insult veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the heroic achievements of the Soviet people. The group is currently closed by the administration.VKontakte site, however, not earlier than it was noticed on May 9 and caused widespread fair outrage. Ulyana Skoibeda (this is the same journalist who recently became famous thanks to a speech in defense of the Soviet victorious army, accompanied by caustic attacks against her critics - liberals of Jewish racial origin) could not pass by this group of anime anti-Soviet advisers and branded them in the article “ Victory Day” and gay orgy ribbon ”posted on May 9 on the Komsomolskaya Pravda website.

This article was also published in the printed version of Komsomolskaya Pravda.

A call pops up in my mind: “forget the name of the mad Herostratus!” and the term "Streisand effect" at the sight of this struggle, more like a PR, albeit black.

It should also be noted that such a group on the VKontakte website is not the only one. There is, for example, “ Anime is better than Allah ”, created later on the same principle (except aimed not at veterans, but at Muslims) and also managed to get its share of PR, in particular, on a demotivator .

Unpleasantly observing all this, it is difficult to get rid of the idea that such public work is carefully coordinated from the outside — perhaps even by special services. It reminds, you know, a bearded joke that the fight against extremism has reached such a scale that there are several extremist groups at once, entirelyconsisting of embedded FSB agents. It involuntarily begins to seem that these two groups on VKontakte are precisely composed entirely of FSB agents (of the so-called “agents of influence,” at least), and the whole purpose of their existence is only to make it possible the moment to present them to society as an excuse to point to animeshnikov, exclaim “atu!”, start bullying. And under the guise of ending anonymity on the Internet.

Well, in conclusion - for unloading the mind - scattered fragments of poems and manga, in a vivid figurative form reinforcing the idea of the text you read. To be remembered memetically.

I swear that I will be cleaner and kinder,
And in trouble I will never leave my friend.
I don’t want a regime like in North Korea -
Let them come to their senses, not the whole of ███!

Beautiful Madoka, do not be cruel to me ...
