Google will become the default search engine in Russian-language Firefox 14
Apparently, Google’s support for the Mozilla developer community (I recall that in December last year, the cooperation agreement was extended by three years at once) was not in vain. In Firefox 14, in the Russian version of the browser, the Yandex search engine will no longer be the default search service. Instead, Google will be number one.
In principle, Yandex and Mozilla also concluded a cooperation agreement, according to which Mozilla is obliged to include the Yandex search service in the list of search services of the Mozilla browser. But this agreement does not say that the Yandex search engine should be number one, i.e. set by default. So the Mozilla developers changed the default search engine without any problems.
Of course, Yandex has already announced that this company will distribute its own version of Firefox, where the domestic search service is installed by default. But this version is unlikely to become particularly popular. Of course, tens of thousands of copies of such a customized browser will go away, but most Firefox users are still updated from the central Mozilla update service.
In general, it is unlikely that such a change in search services by default will affect the popularity of the search engine from Yandex. Those who are used to working with this search engine will put it for themselves number one. Who worked with Google - will continue to work with him.
