Website Tax

Owners of sites in the .ru and .rf domain zones will pay a fee to the Russian Authors Society (RAO) for the author's content (music and films) posted on them.

The corresponding letter signed by Nikita Mikhalkov was sent to the State Duma. Amendments to the Civil Code can be adopted already during the second reading of the draft parliament.

This was said last Friday by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of RAO Andrey Krichevsky at a closed meeting of the forum of the Association of Corporate Lawyers. According to media reports, the information was confirmed in the press service of RAO and in the State Duma.

Thus, a non-profit organization will receive the right to receive money for playing and listening (!) To music on all Russian sites, including social networks. RAO did not specify the size and technology of fundraising.

Now RAO receives money from the sale of multimedia devices (the so-called "tax on blanks" at 1% of the cost). This collection is often criticized for its lack of effectiveness and opacity.

Experts believe that the new amendments will adversely affect both the Russian segment of the Internet and the copyright holders themselves.
