Russia joins ISOC

    On March 13, 2012, at an ISOC meeting at the 43rd ICANN congress in Costa Rica, Russian representatives, Webnames.ru director Sergey Sharikov and President of the Internet Technology and Infrastructure Development Fund Alexander Panov, to the applause of the audience, handed in to ISOC Director Ted Mooney an application for the creation of the Russian branch of the Internet Community (ISOC Russia Chapter) in the framework of the Internet Society (ISOC.ORG).

    The initiative to create the ISOC Russian branch was proposed by Sergey Sharikov and Alexey Sozonov several months ago and received the support of well-known Internet figures in Russia. Director of ROSNIIROS Aleksey Platonov and Vice-Rector of Moscow State University Alexey Soldatov, Director of the CC National Domain RU Andrey Kolesnikov and Chairman of the Board of the CC Marina Nikerova, RIPE Board Member Dmitry Burkov and RAEC Director Sergey Pugotarenko, Mail.ru Vice President Mikhail Yakushev and PC Magazine / RE Oleg Oleg Lebedev supported the initiative and became one of the founders of the ISOC Russia Chapter.

    The ISOC Russian Branch, involving individuals who want to influence the future of the Internet, companies, government agencies and funds involved in the development of the Internet and its technologies, will strive to achieve the following goals:

    Design, maintenance, development and dissemination of standards for the Internet and its Internet technologies and applications.

    The growth and development of the Internet architecture.

    Maintenance and development of effective management processes necessary for the functioning of the global Internet.

    Education and research related to the Internet.

    Assistance to developing regions in the implementation and development of the Internet infrastructure and its use.

    Development of the Russian-language Internet addressing system, support for new Cyrillic root domains.

    Harmonization of actions and activities at the international level to facilitate the development and accessibility of the Internet.
