During the last session of questions for UniSender , we answered most of them directly in the comments, however, one topic seemed interesting enough to us to put it in a separate post. So, we present to your attention a story about what software and mailing methods UniSender uses in its daily work.

Almost the same dog works on UniSender

    Letter generation

Unisender generates emails on its own, according to all the recommendations of the RFC for composing headers (not forgetting the Google List-Unsubscribe ), as well as signing with DKIM and SPF.

Letters can be created in different formats (html, text), embedded images can be added to them and files can be attached.

    Sending to MX

MTA (mail transport agents) is involved in this - UniSender did not write his own mail client and invented a bicycle. Instead, the service uses the time-tested and popular Exim, as well as the most powerful PowerMTA mail client, the speed of which exceeds 1 million e-mail messages per hour. from each server (according to test results for messages of 10-20 kb in size). The newsletter leaves simultaneously with two dozen servers, on which it is scattered according to a clever formula for the fastest and highest quality delivery without delay.

Analysis of delivery / opening letters

For the analysis of discoveries, the standard practice is to insert an inconspicuous picture into the text of the letter, upon loading of which the fact of the opening of the message by the subscriber will be determined. This method is not 100% accurate, as many mail programs and mail services cut external images by default. However, for example, mail.ru, which is used by half of Russians, shows pictures by default.

To count clickthroughs, UniSender substitutes links to your redirect domain. Links are encrypted by inserting some service information into them. There is already 100% accuracy statistics.

To analyze delivery, non-delivery and complaints of spam, Uni uses the standard features of the SMTP protocol and provided by Western postal services Feedback Loop (FBL)- AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail / MSN / Live. Of the Russian providers, Mail.ru was the first to add such functionality the other day, so in the very near future UniSender will begin to process complaints about spam from email users.

Postmaster@mail.ru gives a general picture of the quality of delivery to their server. it looks like if without numbers, it’s something like this (green - delivered to Inbox, yellow - to spam, red - not delivered at all):

So-called “hard-bans”, that is, mail server failures to receive mail, are processed independently and statistics output with decryption is issued: for what reason the message was not delivered (for example, the mailbox was full, server failure, domain does not exist, etc.):
