Microsoft Research Computer Vision Summer School

From July 28 to August 3, 2011, at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov will host the Microsoft Computer Vision Summer School. The school is sponsored by Microsoft Research - Microsoft Research.

For the first time, a school of this level is held in Russia. Lecturers of the school are the leading world scientists in the field of computer vision and image analysis, set trends and directions for the development of the entire field. For example, Andrew Blake and Andrew Fitzgibbon made significant contributions to Kinect technology, a real revolution in the field of human-computer interfaces.

In addition to courses on mathematical methods and computer vision algorithms, at school you will learn about the structure of the field as a whole, about the rules for writing articles at leading scientific conferences. A separate section will be devoted to the experience of creating startups in the field of computer vision. You will get the opportunity to personally communicate with the founders and leaders of several Russian startups. Representatives of the Skolkovo IT Cluster are expected to talk about the opportunities provided by Skolkovo to project participants.

Participation in the school is free, nonresident participants are provided with a hostel and three meals a day. The working language of the school is English, but some reports will be read in Russian, so participants must be fluent in both languages. Minimum training for participants should include an introductory course in algorithms and basic programming skills (in C ++).

You can apply for participation on the school website until April 30 inclusive. The application must be accompanied by a summary in English and a technical article. It can be a term paper or a thesis, an article for a conference, just a report on some personal project. The main thing is that she positively characterizes the qualifications of the applicant! It doesn’t matter if the work was in another area of computer science. Acquaintance with computer vision is welcome, but not a prerequisite for participation in school.

    Courses:

    • Andrew Blake (Microsoft Research, UK) An overview of current vision research at MSR Cambridge.
    • Victor Eruhimov (ITSeez.com and Nizhny Novgorod State University, Russia) OpenCV and High-Performance Vision on GPU.
    • Andrew Fitzgibbon (Microsoft Research, UK) Topics in 3D Vision and Continuous Optimization for Computer Vision.
    • Christoph Lampert (Institute of Science and Technology, Austria) Max-margin methods in Computer Vision.
    • Ivan Laptev (INRIA and École normale supérieure Paris, France) Action Recognition.
    • Vincent Lepetit (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland) Real-time computer vision.
    • Carsten Rother (Microsoft Research, UK) Discrete Models: Optimization and Applications.
    • Andrew Zisserman (University of Oxford, UK) Visual search and recognition.

    Additional lectures

    • Victor Lempitsky (Oxford, UK) Writing a computer vision paper.
    • Anton Konushin (MSU, Russia) Computer vision infrastructure.
    • Olga Barinova (MSU, Russia) Computer vision startup.

It is worth noting that the participants in the school have a chance to win the Xbox360 with Kinect, and take it home.
