New iOS update made non-original G8 screens inoperative

In October last year, an article was published on Geektimes , telling that Apple could turn off phones with a non-original display. Then just came out a new update of the mobile operating system Apple - iOS 11.0.3. Analysis of it showed that the corporation, if desired, can make their phones with non-original screen inoperable. A non-original screens - a huge amount, because not every iPhone owner can and wants to pay about $ 100-150 for replacing a broken display with a new original one.

Last year, the company did such a trick, suddenly turning off the sensor at the non-native iPhone 7 screens. True, then the company prepared a patch during the week that solved the problem, but the message was clear - if there are unoriginal spare parts, the phone may stop working . A few days ago it happened with the phones of the eighth model, the situation repeated.

Some owners of repair shops suspected that something similar could happen and did not change the screens of the new models. Michael Oberdick, owner and operator of iOutlet, a company selling and repairing iPhones in the US, said that his company did not accept G8 for repairs if a screen replacement was required.

Indeed, the expectations were fully realized - after the release of the iOS 11.3 update in March of this year, some screens lost their sensor. Of course, the problem is not hardware, but software. Customers of third-party services began to massively return the repaired gadgets, demanding something to do to revive the screen.

The Injured Gadgets company had to accept about 2000 devices for repeated repairs. The company's customers were very annoyed by what had happened. And Apple, according to the owner of the company, did all this in order to avert users of their gadgets from the services of third-party repair services.

How did the company manage to turn the iPhone 8 workers into a “pumpkin”? Everything is trite. The screen of the phones works due to the presence of a small microchip. According to the community of repairmen, it is the problem. In the past six months, companies have replaced screens of “eights” with non-native ones without any problems — the Chinese displays worked just as well as the original ones. But something from the last update allowed to break their working capacity.

As far as we know, there are non-Apple screens that work after the update. But even if you start to install these displays en masse, no one will give a guarantee that Apple will not undertake anything in their attitude, because it is relatively easy to do it. Now the repaired third-party services of the iPhone through the fault of the corporation have turned into a kind of time bomb. At some point, the timer may work and the phone will stop functioning normally.

The problem with the iPhone is not only that. For example, many services complain that repairing the iPhone X is a complete nightmare. In particular, the light level sensor, which adjusts the brightness of the display depending on external factors, stops working after replacing the display, even if the screen is an original from Apple.

In addition, the front camera, used when running FaceID, is tied to its motherboard (as previously - touch buttons). And if you rearrange the camera, it will work, but FaceID stops functioning. It turns out that Apple is the only company that can replace the display or the front camera, ensuring the full performance of the "dozens".

Something similar was in the "sevens" - the button is tied to the board. If in the “fives” and “sixes” the replacement of the button led to the loss of only TouchID, which is also not very nice, then for the “sevens” the replacement of the button outside of Apple means its complete inoperability. Change the Home button in the seventh model is possible only for beauty, after the replacement it stops working.

Now in the United States is actively promoting the "right to repair", that is, the ability to repair the purchased thing with their own hands. This applies not only to telephones, but also to other systems, for example, tractors. If changes in legislation are adopted, Apple will have to start supplying original parts to everyone, with the phone fully operational after replacing any of the parts.
