Odeon TPC-10 Atomic Tablet, Part Three

The first part (it is not necessary to read, there are just thoughts on the topic of choosing a device).
The second part - about the device itself, goes well after reading the review from boomburum.

And here I was going to talk about the software part - how good it is to live under Windows only with a touchscreen, what I had to finish and what didn’t have to. Tightened, of course, but it happened.

    operating system

Advertising texts about Windows 7 focused on working with touch screens. True, it did not say that full support for them is only in Windows 7 Home Premium (and higher). If you try to put on a Starter or Home Basic tablet, you will be left without multitouch and handwriting recognition. Therefore, on Odeon'e (as well as Iros'e and Viewpad'e) it is Home Premium.

The dimensions of the controls are sufficient to hit them with your finger. 70 percent :), misses still happen. But in general, you can use it - click, double click work out fine. Right click - either hold your finger for a couple of seconds, or touch the screen with two fingers. Zoom in with pinch / pinch - not everywhere, but available.

    Reading texts

As I wrote more than once, the tablet was bought, first of all, for reading djvu, pdf, cbr / cbz. Formats, in general, are related - for the most part, they are scans of books / magazines in various containers. Therefore, it was logical to look for one program to view. The first (and last :)) candidate was STDU Viewer . Normally it opens all of the listed formats, remembers the place where it stopped, there is support for touchscreens in the form of binding actions (turning pages) to zones on the screen - as in readers on PDAs and communicators, resizing by pinching / raising fingers.

Additionally displays fb2, but it is, a nice bonus. I don’t read fb2 on the tablet (for this there is a communicator or, if it’s impatient, an electronic book). If I read, I would put alreader.

    Typing

Native virtual keyboard. I tried several alternative options, but in terms of stability they are incomparable with the standard.

The handwriting is quite decent, but it’s inconvenient to write with your finger, and there are no sensible styluses. I bought a DAGi Transparent Capacitive Touch Panel Stylus with a transparent "tip" - at least, at least you can see where you poke. But the main misfortune of the styluses for capacitive screens - a large touch area - has not disappeared. Therefore, I use it quite rarely, to sketch out some scheme in One Note.

    the Internet

Firefox 4 (currently RC2). Much faster than 3.x, there is scrolling with your finger, zooming in and out with your fingers. Adblock and flash block - to speed up the work, especially the second. Of the small tweaks - a vertical toolbar, visible in full screen. In theory, it would be necessary to bring out buttons for switching tabs on it, but so far the hands do not reach.

    Office

There is a 2007 office (well, I had an additional license, but I would have managed it only with supervisors), it works fine. I do not type texts, and it is quite possible to “see the price” without a keyboard.

    View images

    Photo frame, yes. :) The
card reader, however, is only for microSD, but in cameras I still have regular SDs. It is necessary to cling through an external card reader.
Viewer - Full Screen Viewer . The minimum functionality is just viewing, large buttons forward / backward. Can’t do anything else.

    Video, music

I don’t listen to music at all, I watch videos occasionally. There is enough Media Player Classic.

    Communication

I have not tried it - I have a phone for voice communication, and ICQ on the tablet is somehow not in demand. But there shouldn’t be any special difficulties - the webcam and microphone work, there are no problems with launching software for x86, so both Skype, icq, and other jabbers should work without problems.

    Additionally

    Worth Evernote, worth DoubleGIS.
There are no problems with the first, in the second there is a bit too much advertising for such a small screen.

    conclusions

As I have said more than once, I bought a tablet as a “bedside e-book” for certain file formats. In this capacity, he completely suits me. Whoever wants more from the tablet needs to think carefully about what exactly you want and whether this device is capable of providing you with this or not.
