Microsoft sues Motorola, Android under attack

    Microsoft issued an official press release with information about a lawsuit against Motorola for infringing nine patents in the field of mobile technology. The statement states that Motorola infringes on Microsoft patents in its products using Android.

    A more detailed explanation of Microsoft's position is given in this entry on the official Microsoft On The Issues blog. It provides standard words in this case about long-term investments and innovations that need to be protected. Similar phrases were in the statement of Apple, when she sued HTC.

    By the way, cnet.com managed to get a copy of the lawsuit with a list of patents. Here are their names:
    • Common name space for long and short filenames (2 patents);
    • Monitoring entropic conditions of a flash memory device as an indicator for invoking erasure operations;
    • Radio interface layer in a cell phone with a set of APIs having hardware-independencedet proxy layer and a hardware-specific driver layer;
    • Method and system for managing changes to a contact database;
    • Flexible architecture for notifying applications of state changes;
    • Context sensitive menu system / menu behavior;
    • Method and system for supporting off-line mode of operation and synchronization using resource state information;
    • Generating meeting requests and group scheduling from a mobile device.
    Motorola has already managed to answer with the standard answer in this case: “we have the largest patent base in the mobile sphere, we will fight.”

    Obviously, this step of Microsoft 10 days before the start of sales of phones based on Windows Phone 7 is not accidental. Android is attacked from two sides: Oracle crushes on Google, Microsoft on Motorola. The site neowin.net says that Google does not provide patent protection for licensing Andoird, which means that all suppliers of Android products are potentially under attack.
