We have just released a new version of the Gmail application on the Android Market, and now Gmail updates are no longer tied to the releases of the new version of Android ( to avoid accusations of contradiction, I’ll explain - “are not tied” to the releases of the new version of Android, and not to the new version of Android. T .e. for the application to work, Froyo is still required - note . Now you can receive new Gmail faster, without having to wait for system updates. To begin with, we improved answers to letters, access to quoted text, and much more.

The most important actions with the letter will now always be available at the top of the screen when scrolling through the letter, all in one click, and it does not matter how long the letter is.

Don’t remember, the answer to what is the latest letter in the chain? Now you can view the contents of the previous letter ( meaning the cited text of the previous letter in the current letter - approx. Transl. ) Is much easier, as well as in the desktop version of Gmail. Tap “Show quoted text” to see the contents of the previous message.

Finally, this updated version of the Gmail app has limited Priority Inbox support ( I’ve already translated about this - approx. Transl. ). If you have already enabled Priority Inbox through the desktop version of Gmail, you will see a label ( label - approx. Transl. ) “Important”, which contains all messages marked as “Important”. You can even add a shortcut (shortcut - approx. perev. ) “Important” to your home screen.

For this update, Gmail requires Froyo (Android version 2.2), so this application is available for Nexus One, HTC EVO, Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid ( In the comments, the application also works on HTC Desire and even on G1 with CM6 firmware - approx . perev. ). (Not sure if your device is running Android version 2.2? Click here ).

Update the app via the Android Market (just scan the QR code below or click here if you’re on your phone) to check out the new Gmail. We'd love to hear what you think, write to android-apps-support@google.com.

Update 9/21/10 12:26 pm PDT: There is a known problem when the headers are not fixed correctly at the top of the screen on HTC phones like EVO 4G and Droid Incredible. We are working on it.
