Culture of the future

    The horizons of the future are in no hurry to unfold so quickly. And especially difficult was the understanding of the image of culture. “That's something, but everyone can already say about culture,” I thought, and just as quickly, this illusion melted in my eyes when I tried to grasp the experience of the past. The more I tried to figure out the past, the worse my position became - the focus was completely lost. Attempts to ask Google about the future of culture have yielded absolutely nothing (maybe they didn’t ask like that?). I was forced to refuse to read everything that was written and proceed to generate the environment of the future, temporarily abandoning the concept of culture.

    Yes, and do not even bother to look at the definition of culture in Russian wikipedia - suitable if only for a duty essay. But it’s worth a look in the English version - culture.

    But to begin with a little about the word culture , which originally in Latin means cultivation, processing, cultivation. Hence the word cultivation , i.e. cultivating something. The word culture was for a long time connected with the concept of cultivating the land and with agriculture in general, and now we continue to call plants cultivated :)
    And only with a gradual and long stage of the invention of new tools, mechanisms and skills: ax, hammer, pickaxe, matygo, wheels, carts, millstones, mills, domestication of a horse, etc. there were people who were only engaged in their own business, and were no longer attached to the earth. There was a natural need for the transfer of accumulated skills and knowledge. This is where the element of learning and education begins to penetrate the understanding of the word culture - implying the initial 'cultivation, cultivation, cultivation', but already of a person!
    And the modern understanding of culture as a space associated with creativity, art, art, music, spiritual, mental, internal, etc. appeared relatively recently with a stone ax - in the era of the so-called New time. For certain epochs, scientists divided the entire history of culture in the 20th century:
    * Primitive culture (up to 4 thousand BC);
    * Culture of the Ancient World (4 thousand BC - 5th century AD), in which the culture of the Ancient East and the culture of Antiquity are distinguished;
    * Culture of the Middle Ages (V — XIV centuries);
    * Culture of the Renaissance or Renaissance (XIV-XVI centuries);
    * Culture of the New Time (K. XVI — XIX centuries);
    * Culture of the Newest Time (K. XIX - present).
    I specifically brought this periodization. I’ll say more about her!

    I will return to my desire to look beyond the ramp :)
    First, I will determine for myself the horizon of the future. I will not direct my eyes to the remote date of 2050, but to closer dates - I will talk about the dates 2020-2030. Yes, and the date 2050 itself, no matter how colorful it would seem, is still the image of the distant future. After all, after 40 years :) Well, add to your age ... That's it!
    Further, for the formation of the initial image of the future, I will deliberately limit myself only to forecasts of the development of technologies in different fields and the new opportunities and spaces that they open. I understand that I can’t grasp all areas in one fell swoop, so if there are additions, welcome to comment with your examples and images.

    image of information spaceYou can already see today - everything is very realistic and very close in time, i.e. there is no doubt that this one will be coming soon :) Here is the vision of the future from Microsoft home , health , shop , office , and the vision of the future from Nokia home and environment , environment , Natal project . In addition to these technologies, it is worth adding the capabilities of holograms. Already today, artists are beginning to actively use holograms. But will the artists themselves be needed tomorrow? !!! :)

    It is obvious that information technology will qualitatively change the media space. Now the media are starting to try to work with holograms.

    More holograms from a concert in Moscow , Turkey.
    With the image of information technology more or less clear. The connection of computer, communications and content took place about 20 years ago, and now it is booming and will continue to develop at no less pace. But it’s already obvious that in theaters there will be a question of 'live' productions and productions with replaced virtual characters - holograms.

    images of virtual worlds
    With the expansion of the space of their human perception (smell, gravity, temperature, vision, ...) virtual worlds will become the same explicit and real platform. And in some areas, real spaces will absolutely replace. Moreover, virtual worlds will be everywhere and there will be a copy of the real world in the virtual, mutually beneficial complementing each other.
    Having appeared due to the natural convergence of computers, communication and content, virtual worlds will grow into new spaces of communication and creativity. While we stop;)

    image of robotics
    Well, it must be admitted, the oldest image. But still, I do not see robotics as an independent direction. But in conjunction with biotechnology and with humans (exoskeleton), robotics will actively develop.

    Of course, robotics expands the space for creativity: moving figures , exoskeletons: here , here , here and here . Robots learned to hold spoons and tubes , learned to walk, run , dance , play the violin , etc. But for the time being, it’s still very difficult for me to imagine how robotics will affect culture. In my opinion, the most important influence has already been made :). Say thanks to Ray Bradbury :)
    Although, of course, watching and observing robots and all sorts of technological gadgets is definitely interesting. It is a fact.

    image of a shared living environment of a full-fledged life environment
    I deliberately deleted the definition of “environment” - since I think that he has completely outlived himself, and I propose the concept of live environment to define the present and future life in a city in which artificial artificial landscapes of virtual reality and computer simulations will come with a single coordinated matter (open space) for creative communities & public spaces. The concepts of such buildings as a theater, library, school, cinema hall will expand significantly to places of communication, creativity and new production. Definitions of stops, squares, squares, streets, walls and roofs of houses will gain a new meaning and quality, they will become a place for effective interaction with each other.

    Still here are links to Tetris on the wall and to video art.
    I deliberately avoid issues of architecture and design here. And then we’ll get completely bogged down;) We’ll talk about the city as a place for effective work. In the meantime, a light roller for seed

    image of biotechnology, genetic engineering
    That's where the real thing is only just beginning. It is here that the most significant new spaces will unfold: artificial life, design and metamorphoses of bodies, expanded sensory organs. The possibility of transforming, improving one’s body, both at the level of an adult organism and at the level of genes, will begin to frighten with its novelty. A person will forget about many diseases, learn to repair damaged limbs, joints, organs.

    And this is where the mass of ethical and moral issues begins, new images of biotechnological devices, smart bodies and even a single organism are born, questions of relationships and formats of creativity and work, production within society arise. In short, nothing is clear what to do with all this and how to live ... :)

    the image of nanotechnology
    well, everyone knows about nanotechnology, especially in our country;)

    image of biocomputers

    For now, let's leave this bio-computer alone. This is definitely not the case of the 2030s :)

    Image of expanding the boundaries of the mind
    In 2005, the Blue Brain Project , a project to model a human neocortex , was launched . To model 10 thousand neurons and 30 million synapses, 8192 processors were needed. I am glad that real modeling of consciousness is still a long way off :)

    images of religion
    In the future, the significance of man, his competences and skills, the cloud of his actions and thoughts will be much more significant and will be of the greatest value. Still would! After all, everyone will follow their profile;) The Church today does not keep pace with progress. And some, like Andres Serrano provokes the church with his work: Piss Christ for even greater conflicts between man and the church.

    We get such an explosive mixture of images of the information space, virtual worlds, robotics, urban space, biotechnology, nanotechnology, technology of reason, religion ... If you still had the strength and patience to read it here, then it's time to formulate a thesis about the culture of the future :)
    And here is the place to recall the very periodization of the history of culture, which ends with the latest time. Only now the newest time has already ended thirty years ago ... :)
    The question is reasonable, but what now, and what is most important, further, in the future?
    I have no answers, but the following picture is clearly formed: I believe that it is cultureshould ask all acute questions, excite and provoke reasoning, push for rethinking the current arrangement, address the essence of the relationship between nature and man, about the dangers and opportunities of a new person, about a possible world order and worldview ... It is culture that can reveal and vividly demonstrate the failure of old axioms in the impending future world, show the conventions of forms and structures, notice new horizons in the evolution of personal needs, self-transformations, sensory perception, spiritual of the world.
    In our post-digital era, the issue of transboundary space will come firstwill affect all spheres of human activity and crowd out all other issues. Many prejudices of the past (now present) will go into oblivion. e.g. so-called copyright, giving way to creative communities and social construction.

    At the end of the video with a forecast of human development :)

    If it became interesting, here's another forecast.
