Famous Writers Start Directly Selling Books on Amazon

On Thursday a significant event took place , which was terribly afraid of representatives of the publishing business. One of the most famous literary agents in the world, Andrew Wylie, nicknamed "The Jackal" (also called the agent of the Apocalypse), gave the official start to the work of the new generation publishing house The Odyssey Editions .

Through this office, Wiley list writers can directly sell e-books on Amazon.com, bypassing traditional publishers.

Amazon.com launches first portion on Thursdaybooks from modern and deceased authors, the rights to the publication of which belongs to Wiley. All books are available at a standard price of $ 9.99. Among them - “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov, “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by Hunter Thompson, as well as tetralogy about John Updike the Rabbit.

Selling books directly, authors or their heirs receive from Amazon up to 75% of all funds raised. For comparison, publishers give the author no more than 25% of sales of the electronic version.

Under the old copyright contracts, each writer reserves the right to independently sell his book in electronic form. Now many publishing houses are urgently rewriting contracts, but it may be too late. Selling books directly to the author is much more profitable, so many other famous authors can go under the wing of Wiley.

To maintain the staff of authors, publishers will inevitably have to increase fees for e-books from the current 25% to at least 50%. Writers have long put forward such a demand, arguing that electronic versions are cheaper to manufacture.

The large publishing house Random House has already promised to hook up lawyers to challenge the contracts signed by the authors with Andrew Wiley.
