Enhanced Page Fragments

Not so long ago, we began to add an extended description to some snippets of our search results. So, for example, the snippet of the page with the borscht recipe will look like (the additions in the picture are highlighted in red). This is a good example of using semantic page layout in search results.

The benefit of expanding the fragment is obvious - this is additional data. For example, in the case of our culinary recipe, it is immediately clear that 123 readers tried to cook borscht, following this recipe, that almost all the borshch liked and that it would take about an hour and a half to cook it. Such, at first glance, a slight change in the display of results was useful not only for our users, but also for webmasters - according to our data, the presence of additional information in the description increases the likelihood of a click on a link leading to the page.

In addition to recipes, we support rich descriptions for pages containing personal profiles , reviews , events, and videos.. In all cases, to display additional data about your page in the search results, you can use one of the following annotation technologies: microformats , microdata , or RDFa . It’s not difficult to start using annotation languages - just add semantic markup to the data already on your page and it will be processed in the process of indexing the page.

For all those who want to use structured data markup for their website, we have prepared initial documentation in Russian. Also, to check the display of the expanded description of your pages in the search results, you can use a special toolfor markup testing - it will help you to make sure that the markup is used correctly and that the page description meets your expectations.

It is important to note that, as before, the main priority for us is to ensure the quality of the search for all our users, therefore we will check the correctness of the use of markup and show extended descriptions only for those pages that exactly follow the standards. Also note that markup of structured data does not affect page rank in Google search results.

We really hope that you share our enthusiasm and help us better represent your page in search results using semantic markup.
