Yandex.Maps internal technologies have become available to all web developers

  • From RSS

Yandex opens in the API a technology that was previously used only on its own projects.

The technology is called “active areas”. Its task is very simple - to give the opportunity to show on the map as many active tags as the project needs. If 10,000, then ten thousand. If one hundred thousand, then one hundred! And no compromises.

The Yandex.Maps API allows you to display in a standard way no more than a thousand tags; when you add a larger number of tags, the user's browser starts to work noticeably slower. The theoretical limit of a new technology is measured by hundreds of thousands of active tags on a map.

On Yandex.Maps, active areas are used to display various layers: traffic jams , photographs , road junctions andvideo cameras . And now this technology can be seen on other sites. We present you three projects that participated in beta testing:

" ATM " - a card of ATMs and terminals of the most popular networks.
This is what the Sberbank ATM card looks like in Moscow, it now has 1,274 tags. The Qiwi terminal map looks even more impressive. Here, 11,309 terminals are displayed simultaneously.

The 4rent.ru project uses active areas to display real estate listings. A large number of ads require the use of special technology.

The active areas are also used by the Tili-Dough portal."with an extensive wedding catalog on the map.

In addition to the active areas in the new version of the API, other functions became available:

  • The Metro module - search for the nearest metro stations for 11 cities (and this is 401 metro stations);
  • Module "Regions" - allows you to organize the selection of the region on the map of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan;
  • Geo - targeting - determining the coordinates of a user's region by its IP address;
  • New design of tags and baluns.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions!
