Perfect Solution = PS3 + PS3 Media Server
Recently, the PS3 prefix fell into my hands, and completely without games. Out of the corner of my ear, I already heard somewhere what a media server is, but I still couldn’t try everything. I thought that watching TV shows and movies on my laptop was the perfect solution, which is impossible to think of better. Progress does not stand still.
The first thing that an adequate person will do with the PS3 is to connect to the TV. So I did, using my home Phillips with 32 inches and support for HD 1080p (do not confuse 1080i).

Further, an old and weak, but very quiet computer with a huge HDD was lying around at my place. It has Ubuntu 9.10 on it. I installed the PS3 media server on it . Server setup took 2 minutes and no complicated hand movements. The server itself is written in Javafor this reason, it can work on linux as well as on Windows or Mac. The project account is located on Google code, and everyone can read the source.
The principle of connecting devices to the server is shown below. It is very convenient when home devices have a wi-fi module.

Friendly window PS3 media server:

Now turn on the PS3, and look for the media server, and we can choose video or music.

The last thing I would like to add is that ps3 does not support very many video formats, but ps3 media server can transcode video from one format to another in real time. Transcoding depends on the codecs that are installed on the computer, so you should put all the necessary codec libraries. For linux, I downloaded Mplayer (in the dependencies it drags all the necessary codecs), and for Windows it is worth downloading k-lite. The main transcoding parameter is (FPS) / (Picture Quality), you can flexibly adjust to the speed of your processor and the type of connection between the server and PS3 (ethernet or wi-fi).
