Base Station - Inside View

You probably already know that I work for a cellular company. Just yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the base station and see how it works. Took some photos, decided to share with Habr.

PS If there are cellular engineers on Habré, then they will surely supplement me with special terms, I will be very grateful to them.

The entrance to the base station premises, to the equipment wagon itself, is organized in an interesting way.
Not only are motion sensors, temperature, humidity, fire alarms installed inside ...

The room itself is put on an alarm, the information from which is transmitted to the control center of the Control and Monitoring Center (TSUM) of the cellular network, as well as from the other sensors, however. There are a number of procedures that an engineer must do before he gets out of the room. Just like that, "from the street" you will not enter. ;-)

So, the photos themselves, with explanations.

For starters - the mast BS itself with antennas, there are 5 of them, as you can see. Why so - it will be clear further.

    Close-up.

All procedures are completed, go inside.

This is the heart of the base station.

From here, she communicates with the switch via fiber. Sometimes a relay is set, but not in this case, because BS is installed on our own territory.

This unit is called the “cabinet”, it is actually a set of equipment that makes up a 2G standard base station.

There can be several such cabinets in the room, in this case there are 2. There are two engineers in the photo. They point to a unit that connects the equipment to the antennas installed on the mast. Specifically - with the three that are located above.

Here you can see that 3 transmitters are installed in the office, each of which allows 8 subscribers registered on the BS to communicate simultaneously.

And this is the most delicious. This block is the size of an office printer - a 3G base station. It is connected to the lower 2 antennas on the mast and provides high-speed Internet to all nearby offices.

What else is located indoors. Necessarily - an air conditioner that maintains the same air temperature and humidity in the room all year round. In addition - a cabinet with an electric panel and battery, which allows the BS to work autonomously from 4 to 8 hours in the event of a power outage in the area.

You probably could see that there are 2 wagons next to the tower - in the second there is a diesel generator, which, if necessary, will also ensure the operation of the equipment.

Those. Your electric kettle and microwave may not work at home, but the phone will work until the battery is empty.

We also went on excursions to the Central Department Store itself, where all the information about the state of the base stations flocks, but, unfortunately, they did not give a photograph there.

If you have any questions - please ask in the comments, I will try to answer them.
