Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus - another attempt to catch up with the iPhone

At CES 2010 these days, Palm introduced the new Pre Plus and Pixi Plus smartphones. Releasing last year the first “modern” Pre model, the smartphone immediately predicted the role of the “iPhone killer”, but this did not happen, maybe the new models will be able to compete with the Apple phone?

Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein said the Pre Plus model received 16GB of internal memory and simplified navigation, with Palm focusing on that. The navigation key, which was in the Pre model and in the top photo, is not yet in development.

Pixi Plus received support for Wi-Fi, Rubinstein called the smartphone "perfect." Both Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will receive the Palm Mobile Hotspot software, which makes it possible to make a smartphone a mobile access point for 5 devices (Wi-Fi or 3G).

    • New smartphones will be able to record video, and the updated Palm WebOS 1.4 operating system will receive a video editor and the ability to directly upload videos to YouTube.
    • Palm turned out to interest EA and soon on WebOS games Sims 3, Tetris, Need for Speed Undercover will appear. They promise to provide game demos in the coming weeks.
    • "Palmovtsy" managed to embed the Adobe Flash plug-in in the smartphone browser. Smarfton does a great job with flash and on CES there was a demonstration of the Avatar movie on a flash player.
    • Palm is working on the Ares project, a web application for the Palm platform. Such programs can integrate with various services, for example, Facebook and Flickr.
    • To attract third-party developers, Palm announced a bonus program of $ 1 million, they will receive the developer of the most popular free application in the Palm directory.
    • In the US, Verizon will exclusively distribute Pre Plus and Pixi Plus.

Prices for new smartphones have not yet been announced. In my opinion, the devices are clearly inferior to the Apple iPhone and Google Nexus One, although more attractive than a year ago. We hope for the revival of the once legendary Palm.
