DreamHack 2009

From November 26 to 29 in the Swedish city of Jonkoping was held the world's largest festival of computer games and technologies - DreamHack Winter. Thousands of players and "geeks" DreamHack promised a lot of discoveries and entertainment. I immediately want to note that Pavel Kuznetsov , aka BRAT_OK, tore everyone up for rags in Star Craft: Brood War for terrans, for which he has great respect. On a habr it is not found yet.

DreamHack - LAN party, which hosts competitions in computer games and demoscenes. Held twice a year in Jonkoping (Elmia Exhibition Center) and in Skelleftea (Expolaris Congress Center), which in Sweden and holds the world record for the world's largest computer festival. In 2007, DreamHack organizers received an honorary diploma from Jonkoping Municipality for their contribution to the development of local business, education and society.

DreamHack began with gatherings of friends and classmates in the basement of an elementary school in the town of Malung in the early 90's. In 1994, they won the canteen of the same school, becoming the largest regional demo party and called themselves DreamHack. In 1997, the event became the largest in the country and the third in a row in Scandinavia, since 2001 a permanent venue was chosen - the Elmia exhibition center in Jonkoping.

Since 2002, DreamHack has been held twice a year: Dreamhack Summer is a gaming festival in June and DreamHack Winter, with a large bias towards the demo scene, takes place on the last weekend of November. DreamHack Winter 2007 set a new world record. 11060 bodies with 10554 computers arrived, the previous one was installed on Dreamhack Winter 2006 (7752 bodies and 7788 computers connected to the network - at the time of setting the record and 8531 cars and 9184 participants at the close)

The winter festival is now held in three large arenas, where each participant has their own place with a computer, the DreamHack Expo is also held where you can watch and try the latest technical achievements, take part in seminars and lectures, various competitions or even have some fun: bungee jumping, laser tag and go-karting.

Absolutely everyone comes to participate: from elementary school to people of Balzac age, and 10% of them are girls. People come from all over the world, including America and the United Arab Emirates. DreamHack is sponsored by volunteers led by a team of organizers. They work in several shifts to provide services to visitors. The total number of volunteers is about 450, the order is provided by local security services and the police. ©
