Are all these files needed in C: \ Windows

The Windows XP folder is 2309 MB on my machine. It became interesting whether she really needed all this good, especially when you consider that RAM is 10 times less, and it doesn’t swap so much :-) The fresh installation seemed to occupy 800 megabytes, and it’s grown like this ... I did not notice the addition of functionality, but the brakes increased.

I set the Markorussinovichev program Process Monitor to monitor any calls to the file system from the moment of the next boot. After the reboot, I launched the browser, watched the video on YouTube, a couple of rounds in the CS, launched torrents, watched the movie - managed in 15 minutes. I analyzed the log.

It turned out that for my session the following were used:
    - 7% of regular files in volume or
    - 4% in number.

I wonder if when the function will make it possible to download missing or damaged distribution files from the MS server ...

All sub-issues were carried out without directories, of course, and only for the Windows folder - I was not interested in other system locations.

Help about the system. She is two months old, she speaks English, she survived the fleeting installation of MS Office Outlook, she is constantly learning how to update, having independently passed the path from the bottom (SP0) to SP3 during this time. Temp I cleaned it.

Most likely, PM did not catch events from the very beginning, and something was missed. Therefore, for the experts I quote the files from which the log began:

    smss.exe
    ntdll.dll
    autochk.exe
    bootstat.dat
    sfcfiles.dll
    advapi32.dll
    comdlg32.dll
    gdi32.dll

For such experiments, you need at least an NTFS partition.
