New York Droid Interactive Advertising
On black Friday, that is tomorrow, Verizon is going to rent two huge Times Square screens for 20 consecutive hours for a real cyberpunk experiment (and advertising for Droid phones). Google is participating in the experiment.
Tomorrow, anyone passing through New York’s central square can dial 888-376-4336 and say a search query out loud, and the search results will instantly appear on two large screens hanging in Times Square. For example, if you say the word "pizza", the screen will show a Google Maps map with the nearest pizzerias. The system works through the speech recognition API , which is available to all developers under the Android platform.
Before turning on the screens, 24 hours are left. It is hoped that Google has good filters for XXX content. It’s scary to imagine how much it cost to rent screens for as much as 20 hours, but for any small company this is a great chance to advertise in the central square of New York for free if you run a search query by its name. Live broadcast from Times Square goes through a webcam .
