Google Developer Day. Complete
I want to tell you about the past conference Google Developer Day 2009 Moscow.
For most visitors, this day began very early, because before eight in the morning about 30 people gathered at the entrance to the October cinema, Google turned out to be very punctual and didn’t let anyone in before. I had to freeze, but this was offset by a quick registration (Those who came later still registered somewhere else). The least fortunate were the people whose surname began with “K”, this registration section was filled most of all, “A” - “Z” at first was almost empty.
This time they immediately issued a pen, application form and badge, respectively. Then it was possible to take the receiver of translation from English under a passport or driver’s license. Further, as we climbed to the second floor, it was very pleasing that tables were covered with all sorts of goodies, tea, coffee, juice, etc. (after the street, it's just a fairy tale). When the bulk registered, everyone was invited to the main hall and reviewed what will be at the current conference (the video was very pleased, while they expected the beginning that they just didn’t do with chrome). Looking at the speakers from Google’s overseas offices, it seemed that they had invited showmen, ours are still far from them in terms of the quality of the information provided.
Further, everyone was invited to visit the sections of interest to them, taking into account the fact that the first two will be filmed and uploaded to YouTube (not yet posted). By the way, the sections were named as films, which successfully combined with the cinema (Matrix, The Fifth Element, People in Black, The Day After Tomorrow, Star Wars). The last two were constantly crowded, some had to listen to them in the aisle (in principle, there were places, but it was difficult to get to them).
It seemed to me that all the lectures were for beginners, only a few points seemed new. The speakers answered questions with pleasure, exchanged contacts, the atmosphere was very friendly and pleasant. Chewy especially stood out among everyone, constantly joking and interested the audience, but the translators often did not keep up with his speed of speech :) In fact, I noticed only one translator who was “in the subject”, the rest were just poorly acquainted with the web and technologies, so the translation it turned out sometimes like Promt’s :)
In general, Google had a good PR, I think everyone was convinced that you can make good money with them, there was an emphasis on it, and I really want to make the web better and make money with them :)
The event service was top notch, thanks google! And also at the end, those who filled out the questionnaires were given gifts, namely: a T-shirt, a notepad, stickers of all the main Google services and everything in the GDD 2009 corporate package. I forgot to say, they sent an invite to Google Wave to all participants, special thanks for that. (By the way, it was funny to listen to a comparison, which is more difficult than Google Wave or ... someone dedicated a whole site to it, it was more difficult to GW than the US tax law and some other girl (I don’t remember what to call :), otherwise GW is more complicated, even nuclear technology) Who else was writing, it is interesting to hear your impressions.
