2009 Nobel Peace Prize

On Friday, October 9, 44 US President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The laureate received an award with the wording "for his tremendous efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation among peoples."
For the President of the United States, the presentation of the prize was a surprise, which he admitted to the press in the Rose Garden of the White House.
“Today I had an unexpectedly early rise,” the president complained, not without a bit of humor.
“I do not see the Nobel Peace Prize as a recognition of my own merits, it is rather a recognition of the goals that have been set for the United States and the whole world.”
The head of the American state emphasized that he perceived the Nobel Peace Prize as a “call to action”.
At the end of his speech, Barack Obama called on all nations to confront the challenges of the 21st century.
Let me remind you that one of the points of Obama’s election campaign was the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and the resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran, the silence with which lasted 30 years.

Obama promised to send $ 1.5 million to charity. In what projects these funds will be transferred, the White House did not specify.
