Chart Dialogs
P-and-in-e-t ! Today, Habrahabr is visiting three Intel specialists - a girl and two young men. We prepared tea with bagels for an interesting meeting, and they are detailed answers to your most tricky questions;)

As always, we crave interesting dialogs, a capslock in debates and other manifestations of intense activity)
We still choose the winner of the last week, but we won’t do without it - will be announced a little later.
With Vika Zhislin you are already familiar with the first week with Intel on Habrahabr. Prior to joining Intel, Vika worked in a company where she worked in the 3D graphics library Geometry Engine.. At that time there was an idea that graphics cards could be “defeated” in speed by graphics adapters, so Vika participated in the creation of a well-optimized library, which was supposed to do it.

Philip Gerasimov worked at the well-known company NVIDIA , where he worked with developers of three-dimensional programs and computer games on optimization issues. He traveled a lot, mainly in Europe, communicating with developers and helping them switch to new technologies. The next logical step was Intel - Philip believes that Intel has interesting plans for new graphics architectures, so he joined Intel last year. Its main task is to support the Larrabee SDK, which is now in full swing: interaction with both external developers and internal; SDK improvement, help with writing documentation, new ideas for demo samples and so on.

Vladimir Travkin worked in a large Russian outsourcing company, which cooperates mainly with telecom; over two years ago, he was called to Intel as the head of the Graphics Performance Tools project , which is what he is doing now, creating the Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers toolkit designed to optimize graphics applications.

Vika : Ask. It is clear that we can not tell everything, for example, it makes no sense to ask us about the specific predicted performance of Larrabee, or about the number of its cores at the time of release. But we are interested in what exactly they will ask - depending on this, we will somehow adjust our actions. For example, we can try to convince the authorities to open some information on this project, expand the circle of developers allowed to the Larrabee SDK, etc.
Vika : We already have engineering samples in our laboratories. They are not ready for sale, at least I wouldn’t sell mine :), but, presumably, they will appear on the market already in 2010.
Philip : of course, we can touch on this topic - we can’t tell everything, but we’ll tell you something about GPGPU. Here I must say that in addition to the whole front of work on the Larrabee SDK, I am engaged in approximately the same activity regarding Graphics Performance Analyzers - a set of tools designed to optimize computer graphics; Now it primarily concerns integrated graphics adapters and chipsets. Literally today we will talk about this in Moscow at the Graficon conference.
Vika : The integrated graphics adapters have their advantages - they are inexpensive, we can say that they are completely free - they are built into the motherboard; they do not heat up - there is practically nothing to warm up there, they are reliable and do not make noise, there are no moving parts. Naturally, it cannot be said that the integrated graphic adapters are very powerful, but we are constantly improving them. Intel takes the first place in the prevalence of integrated graphics in the market, in addition, due to laptops, integrated graphics are even more than discrete.
Therefore, it is necessary to explain to developers how, with such limited capabilities, to make sure that programs - primarily games - work no worse than on discrete adapters, or at least just work correctly.
Philip : We can answer all the questions about optimizing graphic applications. In addition, I could talk about new effects in computer graphics.
Vladimir : I would be interested in talking with game developers - what tools they use to optimize their applications, what problems they have and how we could help them, what new features to add to our tools. I can talk about optimizing graphic applications for DirectX, answer any questions about Intel GPA and project management. Most likely, I will keep silent about Larrabee and some deep technical details.
Vika: I am pleased to discuss the problems of working with integrated graphics and any issues related to it. In addition, my topics are Larrabee New Instructions (this is a new set of SIMD instructions implemented in Larrabee) and general issues of interaction between modern GPUs and CPUs.
.................................................. .................................................. .............................................
I recall that it was already we have earlier:
- Announcement of the " 5 weeks with Intel " program
- First week - " Intel architecture and application optimization "
- Second week - " Intel development tools "
-The third week - “ WiMAX in Russia ”
You can read - the most interesting was in the comments, although we tried in the interview;)
......................... .................................................. .................................................. ....................
By the way, our scouts are still looking for the lucky winner of the main prize . They do not know how he looks, but they know that he should give a sign - ask such a question in the comments, according to the degree of interest of which Intel employees will unanimously say “Yes, this is it!”.
Perhaps you have not been able to find the answer to some elementary question for a long time, but it will turn out to be the very one because of which many people also cannot sleep peacefully. Or maybe this is such a serious technical question that discussions to it will lead to the appearance of brilliant ideas and ideas for someone :) So, do not be shy!
And further. What would you like to talk about next week? We are not proud and accept applications! ;)
And for those who unreasonably put the minuses of the post, we have prepared ancient curses;)
Good luck!

What questions from readers are you ready to answer? For example, can I ask about Larrabee?
Vika : Ask. What is Larrabee's development phase at?
Vika : We already have engineering samples in our laboratories. They are not ready for sale, at least I wouldn’t sell mine :), but, presumably, they will appear on the market already in 2010.
A lot of people ask questions about GPGPU, general purpose GPU - can you discuss this interesting topic with our readers?

If you compare the integrated graphics and discrete - what are the main differences?
