When Photoshop does not display what it needs

    example

This is the situation: the designer sends the layout, and the layout designer opens up some kind of crap, light or dark (if the layout designer uses MasOS, and the designer is Win.). Or the layout designer saves the picture, and there the colors have become different.

We will understand why and how to live with it.

A small digression into the theory. To display the color on our monitors, the RGB color model is used, but since but since monitors of different models and manufacturers differ, several alternative color spaces corresponding to the “average” monitor were proposed. We are interested in the sRGB space.

sRGB is a color model the use of which will equally display graphics on both a sophisticated and antediluvian laptop.

sRGB is the default space used to display graphics on the Internet.

    The difference in profiles.

The right typesetter has a North America Web / Internet profile. Make sure that in Working Spaces it was sRGB.

The right designer should also have such a profile when creating a site layout. Then no one will have a problem.

In addition, your Photoshop should not only work with the desired profile, but also show you the true layout. And since sophisticated monitors are unlikely to use the average sRGB, it is necessary that there is a checkmark on Proof Colors. This causes Photoshop to display images according to the profile.

    OS differences

In Win, the sRGB profile is superimposed on the pictures by default, that is, even if you have not selected the above profile, you will still have sRGB. However, in MacOs, the monitor profile is superimposed on pictures by default, which is bad. However, the fact which profile you use in the graph will play a decisive role. the editor.

There is another difference: in Win, the default gamma is 2.2, and in Mac 1.8 (at least in the latest OS). Because of this, Mac pictures look darker in Windows, and vice versa. If the designer wants to comprehend Tao, then you need to raise the gamut to 2.2 on the Mac ( whoever says how to do this, thanks to the link
Settings -> Monitors -> Color -> Calibrate -> Continue -> 2.2 TV gamma ... Click on, somehow name and use. Thanks
Vadim Makeev) Why raise it on the Mac and not lower it on Vin? Because Linux is also 2.2, and the new version of MacOS will be released with gamma 2.2 (rumors are circulating).

I was sent a layout in a profile other than sRGB

    This is the most interesting.

It happens. The designer has some “Cinema HD_BQB01072007” and the designer does not know about it. Like, our business is to draw, anyone can offend the artist and tede.

It is unlikely that you will be able to convince the designer to transfer the layout to sRGB and redraw all the colors. Unless with very desperate charisma (however, an ax can also help). Not scary.

First you need to make sure that we have these jackdaws.

    image

Now, upon receipt of a non-kosher profile, we will be issued with such a window.

    image

    What can we do here.

    1. We can apply the profile that comes with the image
    2. We can convert a profile into our workspace.
    3. We can continue to use our profile.

Many beginner typesetters go through all three methods until the picture is identical to that displayed in the viewer (ACDSee or Irfan, for example). And stop at the third. This is NOT CORRECT, because the viewer does not display you correctly either.

And so let's say you have chosen the first option. In this case, when saving images, be sure to remove the checkmark from Convert sRGB when saving images via Save for Web & Devices ... Otherwise, we will not have at all what we need.

Attention. In Photoshop CS3, she hides here.

I strongly recommend choosing the second item - conversion. But before that, go to Convert to Profile and uncheck this box

    image

Because if a profile sent to you uses more colors than sRGB, then Photoshop will try to replace the missing colors with a combination of its own. True, I do not know how it will look, because I have never encountered one. Most likely there will be a partial color mismatch.

That's all. Waiting for your questions.
