
Microsoft Velocity Architecture
If the distributed cache is not enough for anyone, Microsoft builds its own - Velocity.
There is no release yet, there are only a few Community Technology Previews, but work is underway at an accelerated pace. The project has a

It’s hard to say why they started it, maybe because they they always do, but most likely Microsoft continues to build its software stack for Azure. Velocity = memcached, Dryad = Hadoop + Hive / Pig, etc.
But this is not interesting, the architecture of the project is very interesting - heaped up notably.
