After opening his personal blog in September last year, Sergey Brin
updated it for the second time. And again, on a sad occasion. At this time the cause was the death of Professor
Rajiv Motvani (Rajeev Motwani), which Sergey Brin calls his teacher and friend. He says that this outstanding scientist helped him a lot in education, research and professional development. Even at the university, when Sergei showed interest in the field of data mining, Rajiv helped organize a working group of students and teachers, which periodically met and discussed tasks in this area. Soon after, he greatly helped Sergey Brin and Larry Page in the initial work on algorithms, in overcoming technical and organizational problems when creating a Google startup.
Professor Motwani was an advisor and early investor at the launch of Google, and was also an expert at Sequoia Capital Investment Fund. He is well known for
hundreds of publications in the field of computer theory, was a Gödel Prize in 2001 for
his work on proving the
PCP theorem and explaining its application in
nonapproximability problems .
Rajeev Motwani died at the age of 47 as a result of a pool accident near his California home. A memorial service will be held today in his house from 5 to 8 pm
