E-parliamentary elections in screenshots
On June 7, elections to the European Parliament will take place, but today, Estonian citizens can cast their vote online. As a citizen of Estonia, I decided to vote and show how the voting process goes.
And so, to cast a vote, you need an ID-card (smart card, it is also a document, like a passport. You can read it on Wikipedia, though in English) and a card reader. We go to the website valimised.ee (elections.ee), insert the id card into the card reader and remember the pin codes for it.
Next, select a personal certificate from the id card ...
... and enter the first pin code.
Here we are greeted by name. We check the correctness of the personal code and click Next.
We will be informed once again, for the sake of fidelity, that we got to the site of the official e-elections in the € -parliament and that the vote has the same power as with the traditional method of voting.
The most important stage. We select the party for which we want to vote, or individual candidates (they are listed below) and click I choose (Valin)
Here we check whether we made the right choice ...
... and enter pin-2, which is equivalent to a digital signature
That's all, we voted. It is reported that the choice made can be changed. In electronic form today or June 3, or on a paper bulletin on June 1 and 3. On election day, June 7th, the choice cannot be changed.
