Space twitter

Twitter microblogging service is  becoming the most cosmic means of communication. As Vesti.net previously said , NASA relied on Twitter to promote its manned space program. The solution is cheap, but, as it turned out, extremely effective. All that was needed for this was to simply allow astronauts to engage in microblogging. It was decided to make space bloggers Mike Massimino , an engineer who, in fact, is engaged in the orbital repair of the Hubble telescope, and space shuttle commander Mark Polanski .

    - We tried to find an opportunity to share with all that we do, because it is very interesting. But sometimes we are very busy to explain all the details. And Twitter is great for this, since you only have 140 characters and you should be short.
“How do you do that?” How can you post on Twitter from orbit?
    - I'll try using Blackberry.
    - He has a certified BlackBerry for working in outer space.

For three weeks, astronauts broadcast the details of their training to the Network, and on the evening of May 11, Mike Massimino sent a message : “I will write to Twitter from orbit as soon as I can. In any case, watch the take-off on NASA. ” And right after this message is another: “I'm going to put on a spacesuit. The next stop is the Earth’s orbit. ”

Readers of the blog of Mike Massimino - and there are already more than two hundred thousand of them - took the astronaut's words as an order. Not a single take-off of the shuttle has been featured so widely in blogs, photo hosting and on Twitter. The entire front viewer row at Cape Canaveral observation deck was filled with people who filmed take-offs on their mobile phones and replenished twitter feeds with messages on how the launch was proceeding.

It’s not easy to get to the launch pad, but the shuttle's takeoff was visible from other places, and all this was recorded and hit Twitter. The attention of the Internet community was so great, of course, because everyone was waiting for the first twitter recording from space. True, while Massimino has not updated his blog.

But on Twitter, the second astronaut came to life, who, however, quickly calmed the audience by announcing that he was still on Earth. The fact is that Polanski is the commander of the next expedition, which will start in June and will probably be engaged in the evacuation of the Atlantis crew, which will twice cross the space debris belt around the Earth on the way to Hubble.
