Is Lithuania the world leader in Internet speed?

Lithuanian media are proud to report that their small country has come first in the world in terms of Internet speed. True, they allegedly lead only in the speed of the upload, that is, the return channel (8.08 Mbit / s), and in the speed of the download, that is, the direct channel, they occupy only the fourth place (11.28 Mbit / s). This is the global statistics of the Speedtest.net service for all Lithuanian Internet users who have visited to measure the thickness of their channel on this site. The number of tested users from Lithuania is not reported (maybe only one person?). In general, Speedtest.net performs about 20 million tests per month.

The reliability of Speedtest.net statistics (namely, the figures of 11 and 8 Mbps) is confirmed by representatives of the Norwegian hosting provider Hostex, which has data on real users.

Only South Korea (17.83 Mbit / s), Japan (16.07 Mbit / s) and Sweden (11.55 Mbit / s) are ahead of Lithuania in the speed of downloading and receiving data. By the speed of sending data, Japan is behind the leading Lithuania (7.49 Mbit / s), Bulgaria is in third place (4.43 Mbit / s).

Russia takes 5 and 10 places in terms of speed of the return and forward channels, respectively. Moldova - 9th and 11th places. Belarus - 69 and 82 places.
