MTS, Megafon and Beeline launch a common messenger

The big three Russian mobile operators are launching a joint IM service called Chat.

Leaving behind the stern the very fact of the amazing interaction of direct competitors, we will focus on the service itself.

Already written clients for Java MIDP2 and for PC. The volume of distributions for mobile phones ranges from 64 kb to 708 kb (for some Nokia models). The distribution kit for PC weighs 5.93 mb (and is very similar to the reincarnation of the Beeline messenger Svoi, launched in 2007).

To use the service, you need to activate the Chat service and set a password.

You can write to any subscriber of any network, search for people by nickname and phone number. In contrast to the overwhelming clouds of statuses in traditional IM pagers, cell phones limited themselves to the necessary minimum, there were only five statuses in Chat: online, offline, inactive, busy, invisible.
You can enable SMS notifications when new messages arrive and when users enter the network. When sending a message from the application to a subscriber who is not connected to this service, he will receive a simple SMS.
For communication on the network, a separate access point was allocated. For example, Beeline has ims.beeline.ru. If you believe their site, traffic to this point will be free (apparently, payment will be made for each message separately).

Until July 1, 2009 the service is provided free of charge.

Personally, I’m wondering when Chat support will appear in QIP.
