In the Gmail team, we believe that finding the right email address among thousands of messages can be as important as finding the right web page among billions on the Internet. Thus, in order to make the search in Gmail easier, we made a new experimental function in Gmail Labs: Search Autofill.
Turn on Search Autofill on the Labs tab in the Gmail settings, and you will receive offers when you type in the search box. One of the most popular searches in Gmail is names or email addresses, so the first kind of offers you see will be contacts. Some names are not easy to remember (my last name is a great example!) - with this new function you can simply enter a few letters and select the desired contact from the list. Easy and fast.

Gmail offers advanced search options , which are a powerful tool for finding the one message you have in mind. You can search in special places or search for messages with attachments of a specific type (for example a photo). Suppose I want to find the photos my friend Chris sent me. I need to enter its address and then filename: (jpg OR png) . With Search Autofill, I can type “photos” or “pictures”, select “has photos” from the drop-down list (as in the screenshot below) and I’ll get a search query (filename: (jpg OR png). You can also enter the word “attachment” ”And Search Autofill will list the most common types of attachments for you.

One of the reasons we are still showing you this geeky request is to let you tailor it to your needs. For example, if you want to include TIFF files in the search results, you can enter for the query: (JPG or PNG or TIFF).
Use and make sure that it saves you time to search.
