What is the best way to visualize the Banana Study?
The other day I came across an interesting study, which was published on the blog " about marketing ".
The results, of course, are impressive. But the visualization of the numbers is simply terrible. It takes a lot of time for the picture to fit in your head. And especially in times of crisis, we must save staff time.
Let's see how the numbers can be made more visual.
Question No. 1:
Do people like bananas?
Yes, the people like bananas - 73.8%.
And more women like the fair sex (79.3% versus 61.5%).

A table is not a good way to represent numbers. Convert to chart.
Legend "Neutral" and "Do not like" leave, they are cool. To “Love” we add a heart for uniformity.
We also introduce the “M” and “Zh” icons and add the number of respondents surveyed: “13M” and “29Zh”. And without this it is difficult to understand how “Total” is calculated.
Let's get rid of the tenths - no one will remember them anyway, but only confuse them. We do not have an election company to worry about such accuracy. And the signs will be as much as 50% less!
The chart is ready! Agree, it is more visual.

We proceed similarly with the presentation of the results of question No. 2:
"On which side do people open bananas?"

Instead of a complex table, we make a beautiful diagram.

But question number 3 is more interesting for analysis.
Effect of age on the opening side
A certain correlation was found “Age is the side of discovery” - with age people become more inclined to open bananas from the tail.

This is a good example of how you can “manipulate” the audience: after all, ranges are chosen arbitrarily, and even with different intervals.
For example, you can imagine the following picture with a “little girl”: “Up to 20 years: 45%”, “20-30: 50%”, “more than 30: 55%”. And we will get absolutely opposite results: with age they prefer to open “from the spot”.
In order to truly reflect the information, all 42 respondents should be placed on a scatter chart. And then to deduce dependence.
Well, the last question is number 4.
Banana attitude - opening side
There is also a correlation “Attitude toward bananas - the side of discovery”: people who love bananas are more likely to open a banana from the ponytail than they do not.

Well, how can you quickly understand the correlation from the table ?!
Convert to chart. Moreover, we neglect 6.5% of lovers of both (this is not so important, but the complexity of perception increases by an order of magnitude). And we distribute 6.5% between the categories “with the pimp” and “with the tail”.

Present the numbers more clearly! Make life easier for people!
