We connect ICQ through SOCKS
I just managed to properly connect with ICQ! I am not a system administrator; I’m a little familiar with networks, so I don’t know the strengths or weaknesses of this solution. Found it by accident.
So, I have Ubuntu 8.10, I use pidgin for ICQ. Ukrainian IP was also blocked. I decided to install Tor .
In ubuntu, we just do it:
wait until it is installed, then in the settings of the ICQ account, on the “Advanced” tab, select the “SOCKS 5” proxy type and enter the node 127.0.0.1 and port 9050.
It takes longer, but it connects!
As I understand it, Tor is also available under Windows and Mac, but I have not tested it, please unsubscribe if it works there too.
