512 GB SSD now

Toshiba shared information about the imminent entry to the market of a new series of SSD-drives, the most voluminous device of which can accommodate 512 GB of data. The 64, 128 and 256 GB drives are made in the 1.8-inch form factor, and the 512-gigabyte flagship is characterized by a size of 2.5 inches. All devices are based on 43nm process technology.

The peak data transfer speeds of the new Toshiba SSDs are 240 MB per second in read mode and 200 MB per second in write mode. This speed was achieved by equipping the devices with an MLC controller. An addition to the functionality, according to the manufacturer, is the AES encryption function, which all models of the new series are equipped with.

The company is going to present a novelty to the public at the CES 2009 exhibition, which will be held January 8-11 in Las Vegas. Mass production will begin in the spring of 2009. The cost of drives has not yet been announced.
