The seventh element or how I was looking for photoshop for $ 139

During this year, we, slowly but surely, replaced all the software in the office with a licensed one. In addition, we put things in order on all computers and on the average desktop you can’t find the icons for AutoCAD, Tridmaks, Flash and a couple of versions of the office :).

Now, if someone asks him to install one or another software package, first of all you’re thinking not about how to get 15 minutes to install, but whether you really need this program on this computer and whether it makes sense to upload $ 699 for Photoshop for content manager simply because it’s more convenient for him to crop photos from the client.

Of course, such a photograph cannot be published on the site. The main disadvantage of most existing programs is that everything is automated in them and there is no way to control the process. You can’t fix the failed horizon, remove the unnecessary details, and repaint the whitish sky.

It was no coincidence that I remembered the content manager, since just recently we had just such a situation. In fact, the tasks in most cases are quite simple and using expensive Photoshop for them is like a thermonuclear explosion to dig a hole a meter deep. On the other hand, they often go beyond what they offer dozens of inexpensive or completely free programs that can be easily found on the network.

We tried quite a few utilities, and after numerous experiments, it became completely clear - we would have to have Photoshop, but only so that it would be inexpensive). At Adobe, they rightly consider Photoshop a professional cash cow and do not want to part with it for nothing. We have almost come to terms with this fact ... But once, wandering through the wilds of the Adob site, I accidentally stumbled upon a single software product.

This program is called Photoshop Elements 7. I was attracted to the name of the program by the presence of the word "photoshop", and even more the price is 139 US rubles. Maybe this is the very program that we are looking for - I thought.

I thought about it for a while, but I didn’t have much hope, realizing that this could be a well-expected marketing move. Nevertheless, I followed the link to program description page .., on it I also did not find photoshop, although I re-read everything from cover to cover. From the laconic description it followed that this program is adapted for inexperienced users, it is mainly intended to make the work and management of amateur photos as simple as possible - in short, our answer is picase :).

With an even more sad mood, I still went to the download page of the trial version of the program. And then a weak ray of hope lit up again :). The fact is that I was offered to download a distribution kit weighing 450! megabytes, and this is a lot for the user photo manager with advanced features, even by modern standards. Maybe still Photoshop?

Inspired by new hope, I secretly downloaded the distribution kit and without delaying the matter in a long box, I immediately installed the program. I was again disappointed, after downloading the program, I saw the "picasa" in the Adobian way. Everything is so automated that it is already disgusting :).

But I persistently continue to search, hoping in my heart for the natural laziness of programmers :) who would rather prefer to make “picasu” from Photoshop than start to do everything from scratch. And soon my perseverance was rewarded: by clicking on the “full” button I got what I was looking for. Here he is the treasured toolbar, which contains such native tools to the heart of any designer.

During a quick inspection, I found everything that is needed not only for the content manager, but also for the inexperienced technical designer. There is a standard set of tools and a palette with layers, masks, a standard set of filters, a “save for web” dialog ... and even the ability to save everything in psd format.

This article has slightly different goals, so I won’t bother you with a description of the program’s functionality. I will only say about the shortcomings. These, probably include the unusual appearance of the interface and fairly high requirements for hardware. But for an attractive price of $ 139 - I am ready to endure such deprivation :), and you?
