Freelance House Ithaca. We are finishing to build.
The project of Ithac’s freelance house has already been discussed a couple of times on Habré: we tried to develop the idea of co-working further. The result was a kind of co-living.
For those unfamiliar with the project - an idea in brief: we are finishing the construction of the house - near Alushta, near the forest on the mountain, a 15-minute walk from the sea down. 12 rooms will be rented year-round - all with sea views, from 18 to 35 square meters, with all amenities, some with kitchens. Near the house - a garden of 20 acres with a preserved piece of oak forest. The house was intended to be used as a hotel, but we changed the concept and create a co-living and co-working base for freelancers.
The essence of the project is not so much in renting out rooms as in offering a range of opportunities for green living and productive work: Crimea, proximity to the sea, forest vineyards around the house, Internet via 4m dedicated lines (for now - up to 4 mbit / s, later - more), Wi-Fi in the house and in the yard, swimming pool, cinema room, fitness equipment, saunas, parking, library, music library, video library, cleaning, laundry, cook and driver services with a car, etc. ...

In this post we want to tell about the current state of construction as of the beginning of November 2008.
It all started once with this (retaining wall in 3 floors, October 2005 :)

A crisis is a crisis, and a construction project is a construction crisis. Over the summer, we gained speed and unstoppably (at least for now :) we are moving towards the launch of the House. The house grew and began to grow - a garden, entrails and exteriors.
With the exception of small things, work on the design of the facade and laying tiles on terraces and balconies was completed. It remains to equip the blind areas and stormwater drainage, we will complete these works by the end of November.
The house has completed the laying of all communications (electricity, water, gas, heating, sewage, air conditioning, ventilation and wiring of underfloor heating in bathrooms), screeds have been made in the rooms for laying the laminate, 10 rooms are already finished with drywall (this is about a quarter of all rooms), it starts installation of internal doors, heating radiators and plumbing fixtures.

A wastewater treatment unit is operating (at the outlet it gives out disinfected water for irrigation and solid sludge). By the beginning of December, a boiler will be installed and heating and hot water supply will be started.
In the garden (aka a forest) we built 2 streams, each flowing into its own lake - large and small. On the banks of streams and ponds will be built platform for seating (with sockets and lights), separated from each other by plants and paths for movement.

To create a landscape that was closed from prying eyes, we built an artificial slope (in the photo - planted with a lawn), leaning on the wall separating the forest from the Nashensky garden and the neighboring fence. In the spring we plant a slope with plants and put pebbles for heavenly beauty.

Next March, in the rest of the forest, we will plant different conifers and evergreens, mainly Crimean endemic species (different junipers, Crimean pine, strawberry tree, cypress, thuja, etc.). We want to imitate the Crimean mountain forest, in which the oak trees are mixed with different conifers. We have already planted 11 bushes of the Crimean juniper - the same variety, which smells of wood and which fills the air around with coniferous aroma.

In front of the house we set up a regular garden - with flower beds in which all kinds of ornamental and cultivated plants will flourish, playgrounds for rest and work, playful-green paths and two thoughtful purple square ponds with gurgling fountains (while one is ready, the second is under construction).

All street work on land management, terracing, preparing pits for plants for planting in the spring, arranging paths, ponds, etc. we plan to complete by mid-December of this year.
It remains a little :) to finish the decoration, purchase furniture, arrange toilets and coffee tables, fill the pool with sea water and equip the kitchen, connect the Internet and satellite TV, hang up bulbs and indecent pictures, arrange ficuses and crocuses and wait for the guests :)
Due to the general political mess in Ukraine and the economic brothel in the world, we do not undertake to make forecasts about the launch date of the House - too much depends on financing, and that depends on the course of our business a. As before, we are working hard to open by May 2009.
Interested - follow the news on our website www.itaka.crimea.ua . And see you soon!
