There really is something to tell about this person: Amos Joel was one of the pioneers of the cellular industry, an engineer who paved the way for almost all the current giants of mobile communications.

    New York Times :
Mr. Joel received more than 70 patents, but perhaps he was best known for the patent number 3,663,762, which was issued in 1972 and which allowed users of mobile networks to make continuous calls when moving from one cell to another.

“Without this invention, there wouldn’t be all these people roaming around talking on the cell phone at the same time,” said Frank Vigilante, who was one of Joel’s bosses at Bell Labs. “He allowed this business to form and become a true business.”
