Apple surrendered - the new Mac OS will have the same gamma correction as in Windows

Apple gamma 2.2Rumor has it that Apple intends to change the default gamma correction value in Mac OS Snow Leopard. From time immemorial, this value was 1.8, the new value will be 2.2 (exactly the same as in Microsoft Windows). What will this mean? Images will look the same on both operating systems (now the difference is especially noticeable in dark pictures). But the Mac OS itself will look different - the graphic elements of the interface will be darker and more contrast. I wonder if Mac OS will be redrawn to a new gamut? And what will happen to the icons that are already drawn?
