Comfortable reading from mobile phones or a review of txt to java converters

A terrible thing happened! My nokia navigator 6110 smartphone suddenly died! I had to look for a replacement, moreover, a good and inexpensive one, because where did an ordinary programmer get money for a good phone (a loud complaining sob). In general, after a long search, the nokia 2630 was chosen. In general, I only need a phone to call, write SMS and read! And basically just read, because I love to read. On smarts, everything is quite simple, I downloaded the book, transferred it to txt format, threw it into smart with qreader installed, and enjoy it. On regular phones, before you enjoy, you need to translate the book into a java application. For these purposes, there are special programs converters from txt to java. Well, actually, I killed the last two days to make reading from my mobile convenient, and now, I’ll probably share my experience with you.

    How I tested.

But I'm not a fastidious person at all, all I need from a book is the ability to read it ... read in comfort, of course. I know that you can only read real paper books with comfort, but besides being not picky, I’m also greedy, so I’m used to not buying and downloading books, depriving poor authors of the last piece of bread (without sarcasm) ... I generally I think that if the number of people like me will increase, then soon the books will begin to spread ads ...
So, what I need from the book:
    • Ability to change font size / color
    • Ability to change background color
    • Ability to adjust the backlight time
    • The ability to expand the book in full screen
    • Status line showing which part of the book I am in (preferably in percent) and time
    • Switching to the part of the book I need (also interest)
    • When you click on "Down" the book should scroll to the page, not the line
    • The book should open in the same place where I finished
    • Lack of brakes and freezes

    Shasoft eBook v3.1.10

I did not like the program. The book on the phone starts in about a minute, and then only once! Wildly slows down. When the “Down” button is pressed, the text is dropped onto the line, and before that it “thinks” for 10 seconds. To configure scrolling of the screen and not the line (so that when you click on the down arrow the text will be scrolled onto the screen, not the line) but it scrolls to the height of the screen when you press the button "6". The time the screen backlight is not adjustable, the screen goes blank after 15 seconds. The font itself is somehow clumsy. There are only three font sizes, the one that is “small” is too small, and the one that is “medium” is already too large. But the worst thing is the transition function! That is, when I launched a book that I didn’t finish reading on my suddenly dead smart, and wanted to start from the moment I finished reading, I was stunned! Usually, the transition is carried out as a percentage, well, for example, go to the 70th percent, but in Shasoft eBook, this is done character by character! I know that I stopped at about a percent on the 72nd, but what symbol is it ... it turned out that the 610751st ... And I can’t get to it right away, the application hangs, so I first switched to 2048, about two minutes, that's how much the program thinks when switching to two thousand characters, then to 4069, and so, after an hour and a half, I got to the chapter of the book I needed.
In general, it is not suitable for a comfortable reading, the process goes something like this: I read half the screen, the backlight went out, pressed “5”, read the second half, pressed “6” to scroll the page. Inconveniently!
My rating is 4 out of 10.

    TequilaCat Book Reader (TCBR) v2.2.13

Already much better! No installation required. Downloaded, unpacked, launched. There are settings for a large number of phones; you can set the file and text block size yourself. You can put several books in one jar file, break them into chapters. In general, everything you need, including scrolling, and the backlight is customizable. I liked the program, but there are also minuses. For example, I like to read green letters on a black background, it is so convenient for me. This can be configured during conversion, but in the already converted book (when it is on the phone), the font and background colors cannot be changed. When converting, you can generally set as many font settings as you like, of any color and size, and then switch between them when reading, but you can’t change them on the phone. And I also like when there is a status bar below, where it shows how many percent read and time. This line is in the TequilaCat Book Reader, you can put it, you can remove it, but only it goes directly on top of the last line of text, in the same color and without a background, which means it merges with the last line, and you have to remove it. As a result, I removed it, and when I want to find out the time, and the percentage I read, I clamp the unit, all this info is displayed in a convenient readable form, like a separate screen, releasing the unit, I again return to the text of the book.

    mjBook 4.7

This one is already much closer to the topic! The program is very old, I used it before buying my first smart. In general, it has almost everything, and even more. The backlight is adjustable, the size and color of the fonts also change. The background color is set ... True, the colors are a little uncomfortable. They need to be specified in rgb format ... well, there is no problem for green and black, but to set which thread is a different color, more complicated is already problematic, although this approach is, of course, more flexible, because we have all 16 million colors at our disposal. And yet, not everyone knows what rgb is ... There is no status bar, and this is a minus, when you read, time flies quickly, and I would like to have this time before my eyes. But if you click on "0", information about the time, date, how many times the book has opened, appears and how much time I read it ... You can find out the read percentage by going to me “Navigator”, in general it is necessary to go to some part of the book, but the read percentage is by default ... so all this is a little inconvenient, but I think that the above is better prog So, of the minuses of this program - only the lack of a status bar. Not bad!

    ReadManiac v2.5.2

I think this is what you need ... in any case, I settled on this program ... for convenience, almost the same as the previous one, but very pleased with the opportunity to open text files from the phone’s disk .... That is, you can upload ReadManiac to your phone once, and then just upload txt-shniki and open it (it’s written so, but I haven’t tried it, my phone simply doesn’t accept txt via bluetooth without any related software, who tried to unsubscribe in the comments). For me it is not so important, reading comfort is important for me, so let’s stop at it. So, everything seems to be there, everything is great on all counts. The font and background colors are selected from the predefined ones, no rgb. There is a status line with time and ... The current page, which is not very convenient, I’m still used to percentages (yes, that’s right, only 100 percent, but there were 5046 pages in my book, although someone like for me it's a minus). And the book slows down quite a bit ... well, or let's just say, mjBook is faster.

    Push

I opted for ReadManiak, it is this program that suits me on all counts, except, of course, measuring the book in pages, and not as a percentage, although if there was a status line in mjbook, I would use it.
