Another "event" domains
Not so long ago, I wrote about mass registration of domains associated with Hurricane Gustav. And the fact that they are registered in the vast majority of cases, either with a view to a profitable sale, or to host fraudulent sites to collect "donations to victims of the disaster."
Well, at the beginning of this week, the dominers were attracted by another event, namely, the crisis in the world market. Perhaps the most striking event was the beginning of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy proceedings and the sale of Meryll Lynch literally at half price. Both of these companies are large and, until recently, quite successful banks. To date, several domains related to these events have already been registered. And at least one of them (Lehmanbankruptcy.com - Lehman bankruptcy) is up for saleon eBay. The starting price is 4995 and the minimum step is $ 250. There are no bids today. But it is understandable. Who needs such a domain? Unless, to former competitors - to “knock over” the defeated enemy. However, sooner or later there will surely be people who will figure out how to profit from it.
In general, the “business model” of homegrown domainers is quite simple. They track news, select significant events (best of all, tragedies: the war in Georgia, the crash of a plane in Perm, etc.) and register the domains associated with them. Well, then they sell them "at exorbitant prices." And although such activity was not widely developed in RuNet, in Western countries it is not uncommon.
