Some time ago, programs that measure the path traveled on a computer screen with a mouse cursor were very popular. Fitbit, a young California-based company, offers a device to help you compete with an electronic rodent. The miniature “clip” Fitbit Tracker, which can be easily worn on clothes, will record all your movements (number of steps and distance traveled) and calories spent during the day. And at night, being worn on a special bracelet on her wrist, she will study the quality of your relaxation by the characteristic weak hand trembling, which marks the transitions between the phases of sleep.

The wireless gadget lasts up to 10 days on a single battery charge and synchronizes the data it collects automatically when it is near its base station. The one connected to the computer sends them to a special site, which is the second important part of the invention.

On the site, every Fitbit user will have a personal page where his indicators will be visually demonstrated (see screenshot ). In addition, a person will be able to add the number of calories consumed by him, choosing the dishes he has eaten from an extensive list (both by type and by brand of prepared food). A variety of reminder graphics will help you set goals to lose or gain weight for any period, or simply show when the distance you have traveled is equal in magnitude to the equator.

And of course, no modern startup will ignore socialization tools: the Fitbit website will become a full-fledged social network where you can make friends and share your results with them.

With the price of the device only $ 99, the use of the site will be completely free.

Fitbit first showed its development to the public on Tuesday at the TechCrunch50 conference. She was evaluated by an authoritative jury, which included, including Tim O'Reilly (Tim O'Reilly). He noted that Fitbit works in a very promising field of personal sensor technology and health monitoring. Blogger.com and Twitter co-founder Evan Williams praised the design for both the gadget and the site as “strong.”

As you can see, competition with the mouse is far from the only thing that can be invented with the gadget. But what incentive to prove that sedentary work should not mean a sedentary lifestyle!
