"Akado" sells a subscription to music
COMNEWS reports :
Moscow operator Akado-Stolitsa has begun selling licensed music in a new format. Subscribers of the company, contributing 250 rubles. per month, get the right to unlimited music downloads from its portal. The operator’s music catalog consists of more than 200 thousand songs. After signing agreements with the owners of related rights, the company plans to increase its volume by more than five times.
The Akado-Stolitsa company launched the “Signature to Music” service, in the framework of which the subscriber who contributed 250 rubles gets access to the operator’s licensed archive. “We are interested in developing additional services, among which an important place is occupied by services for the sale of content,” says Sergey Alimbekov, Managing Director of Akado-Stolitsa. - We have completed the signing of copyright agreements with all the largest record companies, including EMI Publishing, Sony ATV and Warner Chappell. And we hope that in the near future we will have the largest music catalog among the cable operators in the capital. ” Further...
Other major operators are also concerned about the development of subscriber access to content. Comstar-Direct is actively developing the joint portal of additional services Stream24, where, among other things, licensed software products, music and antiviruses are sold. The project "Music24" is carried out jointly with the company "Soundkey", which has more than 265 thousand musical compositions. “We plan to conduct a variety of events for Stream24 users,” says Ekaterina Nevskaya, spokeswoman for Comstar-UTS.
Meanwhile, experts who are closely familiar with the business of acquiring copyright and related rights suggest that Akado-Stolitsa is trying to bring the music-selling business to breakeven. “There are schemes in which the operator pays the holders of rights, for example, $ 1 million for a certain number of tracks to download, and only then, when the operator settles with the copyright holders, can he make a profit from the purchased tracks,” explains the specialist who wished to remain anonymous.
Representatives of Akado-Capital note that their scheme is different from that described. “We have no right to divulge our scheme, I can only notice that we work using other principles of interaction. And the introduction of a new service, of course, aims to popularize the ability to download music from our portal. When we conclude agreements with the owners of related rights, the number of tracks in our catalog will exceed 1.5 million tracks. I hope that by this time the subscribers will already be accustomed to the new service and will actively use it, ”says Dmitry Zakharov, head of the press service of the Akado-Stolitsa company.
