M.video: a full-fledged laptop with Windows Vista is cheaper than 10 000 rubles?

Notebook price tags a la 9 990 rub. no one is surprised - at the moment in Russia at least 3 laptop models are available for these, and even slightly less money. However, the reason for this post was that it was not about a netbook - a baby with truncated dimensions and functions, it's about a pretty solid piece of iron, with a 15.4-inch screen, a DVD-combo drive, a hard drive and ... yes, Windows Vista.

UPD : Habralumus minus karma, please at least write in the comments why this is done. I didn’t have a task to shave someone into the soul of this topic ...

UPD2 : Under the cut, the feeling of the purchase and the results of a little testing.

Here you can personally verify the veracity of the above, moreover, make a purchase (delivery, at least within the MKAD, is free).

It is quite obvious that for that kind of money you won’t get anything extraordinary in terms of performance; this is a budget solution, which, however, satisfies most parameters of modern mass-market laptops. The only drawback that I discovered is the lack of a PCMCIA slot - sadly, but in the age of the reign of USB 2.0, of course, non-fatal.

What about the brand of the laptop - eMachines? For some, this may give rise to doubts - is the machine reliable? My opinion is this: the brand in our time has practically ceased to serve as a quality mark - how many cases have there been with mass recalls of products of famous manufacturers - the same Sony, HP? The current situation with Apple is indicative - a lot of problems were detected in Iphone 3G (freezes, network signal loss). In the era of contract manufacturing, no one is immune from mass rejects, and it makes sense to look at the brand of goods exclusively from the standpoint of the status of the purchase. Reliability is determined solely by studying the conditions of warranty and post-warranty service. Something like this.

He placed an order, promised to deliver on Saturday. According to the results of the preliminary study (I will compare it with my own, not so new Samsung R40), I will unsubscribe here in the comments. Then he will go to the service of one of my parents ...

So , delivered, unpacked, turned on. I basically like everything - I got what I expected. I compared the performance with my other machines (http://www.passmark.com), so:

    MSI Wind U90 (XP)
    CPU Mark: 191.6
    2D Graphics Mark: 123.1
    Memory Mark: 171.2
    Disk Mark: 277.4
    3D Graphics Mark: 68.2
    Overall rating: 163.4

    eMachines (Vista)
    CPU Mark: 583.1
    2D Graphics Mark: 193.5
    Memory Mark: 426
    Disk Mark: 283.7
3D Graphics Mark: no evaluation, one of the tests did not start, apparently there is no support for a specific version of the shader. According to visual sensations, the rendering speed is at the level of MSI Wind.
    Overall rating: 317.9

Samsung R40 (XP) - was purchased 2 years ago for 27 000 rub. Core Duo 1.6 Ghz, Radeon X200, 1Gb RAM, 60Gb HDD.
    CPU Mark: 776.5
    2D Graphics Mark: 85.7
    Memory Mark: 194.7
    Disk Mark: 227.1
3D Graphics Mark: 5.8 (monstrous brakes, while the 3D picture in the test on the other two laptops is absolutely smooth)
Overall rating: 350.8 (outperformed only due to the dual-core Core Duo, the lag is terrible in all other respects).

So, if everything is clear with a netbook, then, in fact, parity with a large laptop two years ago at a price of $ 1000 is quite an excellent indicator. It feels like - for office work and watching videos (up to HD-ready), the car is just perfect. Even for 3D games (a la Counter Strike or HL2) should be enough. Progress does not stand still, and it is nice that the budget segment ceases to be limited to BU-technology.
