    Introduction

    In high school, I was a "round" dvoechik, who was transferred to the next class only under the significant influence of my father, then vice-rector of the FPI, a rather influential (in personal communication) and powerful man.

    At the end of the seventh grade, I had a choice - go to vocational school or study further at school. All the teachers insisted that it was useless for me to study, not only at the institute, but also in high school, in view of my mediocrity. Naturally, I didn’t really like it, and I decided to become the best at school.

    An attempt to understand the program of the eighth grade failed due to the lack of elementary knowledge of the previous classes (starting from the second or third), which did not leave me any choice but to start studying all subjects in a new, independent way.

    I took textbooks on all subjects from elementary grades and began reading and taking notes. I immediately realized that with the current reading speed, with an undeveloped memory, with a low note-taking speed, inability to concentrate, with many friends from the yard, classmates and the sports section, I can hardly study all the school material in five years.

    My solution was completely simple.
    Before you study, you need to know the methodology of how to study. I went to libraries for methodology. A year, it took me to study the teaching methodologies and study the school curriculum for grades 3 and 4 and try to understand the program of the eighth grade. But by the end of the eighth, I already knew exactly how I should study.
    During the summer holidays until the ninth grade, I studied the fifth and sixth grade curriculum. In the ninth grade, he studied the programs of the seventh, eighth grade and almost caught up with classmates in the ninth grade program. In the summer holidays after the ninth grade, I completely caught up with my classmates and read the textbooks of the tenth grade. In the tenth grade, I already became a regular participant in the Olympiads in chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology, and almost an excellent student.

    At the institute, my efficiency increased significantly and despite the monstrous volume of material, I became the best student and graduate of the university for my intensive sports and various social activities.

    What is the secret of personal effectiveness? There are a lot of publications on this subject, almost everywhere they write the same thing, but in different words. In this material I want to make my contribution for those who are nevertheless interested in my approach to this issue.
    I decided to build this material as simple as possible, in the form of algorithms and simple axioms. Axioms, not taken from books, but those that I checked on myself and which personally helped me.

    But all this looks like in a fairy tale about the ugly duckling with a beautiful ending to the story. In life, not everything is so simple. I was faced with a whole heap of problems that I had not noticed before, but which pulled me back and did not allow me to develop.

    Chapter 1. Personal problems



    I found the following problems in myself

    1. I have little energy. "Batteries" quickly "sit down." It is extremely difficult for me to push myself into any action, and when I start the action I get tired quickly and I want to sit down or lie down and rest;

    2. I can’t gather my thoughts, focus, concentrate on reading, working for more than three to five minutes. Thoughts begin to hover somewhere in the future, the past, in fantasies, anywhere, but not in the subject matter;

    3. I can’t refuse my friends to sit with them, kick the ball, play something, I’m ashamed to appear in their eyes as a “wisecrack”, “mother's little son” and so on;

    4. I can’t get up early in the morning. No matter how much the alarm rings, I lie in bed to the very limit, and often lying in bed I think that nothing will change if I am late;

    5. I’m bored of reading most of the useful books and articles, they seem to be written in the most boring language, without imagination, sorting out from empty to empty and so on;

    6. I can’t read books from cover to cover, leaf through a book, choose something new or interesting;

    7. I do not understand many terms and words;

    8. Having read the book, I can’t remember what was written there;

    9. My fantasies seem so real, and the sensations in my fantasies are so vivid that acting seems uninteresting, and the experience seems to have been experienced;

    10. I can’t quickly find the required thing, it takes a lot of time and nerves until you find what I was looking for;

    11. It is not easy for me to speak with a stranger, and even more so in front of an audience;

    12. I quickly catch up with the idea, and quickly cool to it;

    13. Any criticism I very deeply experience and relate to my personality;

    14. I do not know what I want to achieve not only in life, but even this year, month or week;

    15. I do everything very slowly, slowly;

    16. I do not do the work to the end, quickly, draftedly complete the work I have begun and move on to a new one;

    17. Having planned tasks for a certain period of time, I do not fulfill my plan, finding hundreds of reasons;

    18. I constantly look for and find excuses, reasons and reasons why I didn’t or didn’t do it right, not at the time, and I blame myself for the lack of willpower;

    19. In a conversation I can’t convey the essence of my thoughts, in addition, it seems to me that I understood the interlocutor, but in reality it turns out that it’s not quite;

    20. I do not notice the changes, I do not notice the reaction of people or their changes, having once hung a label on them, I do not change my attitude towards them;

    If you have fewer difficulties than I indicated here, then you are lucky, you are in a much better position than I was once. Of course, I had much more problems than these twenty, but it seems to me that they were the most key for me.

    These problems were like a vicious circle for me - one supported the other and carried away after itself, kept me from developing, from changing. Imagine - having painfully read a book - I forgot it. I took it again and read it. He closed and did not remember again. At the same time, he periodically forgot on which page I stopped, where the book itself lies. I was tired of reading, especially since I read ten to twenty minutes every page. It was hard labor. Read the same thing, instead of going out and sitting with the boys in the gazebo, going to the park, to the amusement park! When I read in the summer, on the balcony, games in the courtyard constantly distracted me, I went into my room, sat by the window. It was no less interesting to watch the passers-by, the passengers at the bus stop, the birds, the clouds, the rain ... I wanted to quickly flip through the book, look at the pictures ... and throw it away ...

    So, I had a lot of problems. And I did not want to be gray and mediocrity. At that time there was no literature, as today, in shaping one’s destiny, in developing one’s personality, in achieving success, and so on, it was the mid-70s, the heyday of the “stagnation” of the Brezhnev era!

    About thirty years have passed since then. A number of simple but effective rules have significantly changed me, my life. Despite the fact that more and more difficulties and tests fell down during these years.

    What are the rules that I experienced on myself?

    Chapter 2. Rules of personal effectiveness



    1. Stop communicating with those whom you do not want to be like, or who “steal” your time, in communication with which you do not develop;

    - it can be your friends today, your relatives, classmates, fellow students, work colleagues;

    - this decision is complex, tough, sometimes cruel, but absolutely necessary;

    - no one says that you should forget such communication and pastime forever, but for 3-5 years, this is definitely true;

    2. Stop work and reading right away, as soon as you feel that your thoughts have “floated away”, get up and begin to especially intensely think about where your thoughts have floated away. And so every time;

    - it’s okay if at first you run from corner to corner, but you don’t force yourself to pore over where you have already lost concentration and will “catch” the concentration on where it went, thereby accustoming yourself to the combination “ thought is concentration ”;

    3. Read from cover to cover without missing a page, footnote, commentary, or derogation.

    - It seems stupid, but this discipline will teach you to do the work from beginning to end, assimilate the material holistically, and not in pieces, and will give the precondition for saving time in the future;

    - Be sure to underline with a pencil or text a marker all that you liked or it seems to you that it will be useful in the future. It's okay if you underline page by page;

    - if you are studying some special topic and you have to read several books and articles, then always start with the thickest and most complete book on the topic. Last read the thinnest book, article;

    4. Inspect in a thick notebook all that emphasized.

    - pay attention that you must first read and emphasize. And only after you finish working with a book or text, start taking notes;

    - in the abstract leave space for additional entries from other books, articles;

    5. Rewrite the abstract (create your own book).

    - how strange this does not sound, but if you want to study a topic and acquire a stable expertise and remember, then after you have outlined material from different sources into one thick notebook - rewrite it in accordance with your logic and structure;
    - after that, “throw out” all the books you used when taking notes, and don’t return to them - you have a final summary, and a draft!

    6. Read fast!

    - Of course, it sounds simple, but how to learn this? Firstly, now there are a lot of speed reading books that probably will not help you (if you have similar problems, as I had). Secondly, this takes a lot of time, which you do not have !;
    So use simple things to speed up your reading speed.

    Never return to read pages, lines, words, even if it seems to you that you don’t remember what they were talking about;
    Do not move your finger along the line;
    Do not mutter and do not utter words, just look at the words, one word after another, one sentence after another;
    Do not ponder the words you read, sentences, paragraphs. Do not comprehend what you read;
    Do not try to forcibly remember what is written;
    Do not be distracted when you read. Just look through the lines and work with a marker;

    - the fact is that your brain does not need you to think deliberately and slowly! It works too fast, and do not detract from its merits. In addition, when you take notes, moreover twice, you still read a couple of times;

    7. Do not pull the rubber!

    - always you yourself are a limiter of your speed and only because you are not specific or do not make a decision right away. Give the answer to any question right away - yes or no, if so, when. It makes no sense to take time to think, it will not help anyone;

    - in a conversation, with someone else, please ask immediately to talk about the essence and what a person wants from you, all the forewords and explanations, as a rule, are meaningless. To double-check, rephrase the essence of the interlocutor and give out the answers that he expects to receive from you. And answer right away;

    - do not argue. Disputes are a waste of time. It makes no sense for you to convince someone of something. And if you have your own point of view, then why do you need someone else's? But if there is a dialogue, discussion of the issue, and you feel that your point of view is not correct - just say so and stop the conversation;

    - Better to do than to think. You can’t think of everything in advance anyway. And having started the business, you will at least get experience, even if the action was erroneous, and if it was not erroneous, you will already do a lot;

    - Do not wait for a better situation or circumstances. It may not come. Speak immediately, come immediately, start immediately. Why wait until all the guests gather? Start eating. Why wait until all the colleagues gather? Go speak right away. Why wait until the new year comes, Monday, the alarm rings, the boss comes, the cancer on the mountain whistles? Proceed now!

    8. Do not wait for others.

    - It’s stupid to wait until your people do something, say, cook. Do it yourself, even if it’s not your task! Do not expect what others will do for you or do their job in the best openwork and right on time. Remember, they are the same as you are slow, not concentrated, with a bad memory, they get tired quickly and find a million excuses!

    9. Do not think!

    - Just do it. You need to write an article, an abstract, a report - do not think, take a pen with paper and write! Need to speak - don’t think, say it! Need to buy - do not think, buy! Not a problem, if you write nonsense, say nonsense, buy a marriage. But you are on the path to personal development and efficiency, and the rest is industrial waste!

    10. Do not complain or pity yourself.

    - it is of no interest to anyone, it will not help you, it will return you to your old positions;

    - you are not dead and this is important. Get up and go! You will feel sorry for yourself in the next world, there you will have a sea of ​​time!

    11. Use new words and terms in your speech. On purpose.

    - But how else do you want to remember them? Writing in a notebook and lugging in a pocket? No, only actively using in speech. If someone does not understand you, this is his problem. But if necessary, give an exact definition of the word;

    12. Do not sit staring stupidly at (window, TV, wall, sky, ceiling, water, fire, nape, eyes, mirror, picture, monitor, sheet of paper, fly, etc.).

    - as soon as you catch yourself in senseless contemplation, get up and start the next task;

    - if tired - do exercises, walk, breathe;

    - the only exception is if you are meditating. But be sure that you are not deceiving yourself and do not call meditation stupid contemplation with a bunch of thoughts in the skull;

    13. Tired. Out of energy?

    - Bullshit. If in the next room a needle is stuck in the eye of a person close to you, if you have terrible diarrhea, if fragments of broken glass fly at you, you will stand up and run, but will not lie like a corpse! So there is still energy! Do you think you have run out of glucose in the blood, run out of glycogen in the liver, hormones cease to be produced? Then you have already died, or are in intensive care. Call you an ambulance?

    - Why can children move tirelessly all day? Why is Louis de Phineas constantly on the move? Do you think they eat and drink only energizers and tonics? And after 8 - 16 - 24 hours of work, did you suddenly fall off and think you are tired? Then read rule number 10.

    - Do you think athletes are tired and sit down to rest? Do you think the researchers are tired, they immediately go to drink beer at the TV? Do you think the soldiers in the war, how tired, so go to sleep? No, you don’t think so. As soon as it seems to you that you, poor fellow, are tired - get up and do the work faster and more! Stop fooling yourself. But others do not care about you.

    14. Are you bored?

    - What about your intellect? And with fantasy? Any normal person, even if he is a little oligophrenic, but not yet a moron, will be able to come up with a hundred reasons why, at first glance, a boring lesson is adventure and joy!
    Why do other high-spirited people do the work that you find boring? Just because they have brains, intelligence and imagination. If you don’t have all this, then how did you read up to this place?

    15. They ask you, but you can’t refuse?

    - A great tool to speed up your work! Do not refuse, but do it. Quickly, even faster, with a high and forget about the psychology of the idiots - that they “drive” you and “use” you! This is your workout! Do the work for yourself, for your neighbor, colleague, for everyone around. Let them get lazy, fry their brains and body! And remember rule number 10 and number 13!

    Before going to bed, when you’re ready to fall asleep, check what you have learned for today and what benefits it has brought.

    - Remember your day in the morning, and until the moment you went to bed. What are the assets of your day? No assets or are they scanty? And what then lay down? Are you tired? See rule number 13. Get up, stop wallowing. How can you spend your day so stupidly? Do the thing. And nothing deadly if you work all night until four or seven in the morning. You will not die of it. Go further. You will sleep the next night. If, however, you do something sensible for that day, otherwise you get up and work again.

    16. What is the point?

    - What is the point of making your way to the bank without a trace if, having counted the money, you came back with nothing? What is the point of buying a car if you are not going to drive it? What is the point of parachuting if you don't open it? So, what is the point for you to start a business if you do not bring it to completion? Don’t start anything if you don’t finish. If you started, then at least die, but complete what you started. Do you think that this rule is contrary to rules nos. 7 and 8? You're wrong! Think yourself. If you do not understand, read rule number 9.

    17. Problems in communication?

    - Shy, shy, modest, quiet? Anytime and anywhere? And at school and in the yard and at home and when alone? Are you embarrassed by your appearance, speech, stupidity, poverty, environment? Tearful, irritable, anxious, suspicious, hot-tempered? Are your emotions shaking you externally and internally? Are you a slave to the environment? Your emotions do not depend on you? You do not control yourself? Could you be emotionally disabled? Have you ever done physical exercises or have you brushed your teeth at least once in your life? Did you clean your emotions? Coached them? Not??!!! That is, you think, your emotions, your brain, your intellect should themselves train, wash, develop? Maybe your car, your socks, your aquarium should also be repaired and washed by themselves? Surely your socks or underpants wear off more often than your brains and emotions, and your legs train harder than your head! And who is to blame? See rules No. 10, 12 and 15. Listen, if you shout, swear, cry, be offended - will you solve the problem? If so, then you are a happy person and you can throw this book away. It is not for those who are so effective in life, but for those who are looking for their own path to development!

    - if you can’t wait to scream, shout, do not think to say something, say it, but quietly, as quietly as possible, so that you can hardly be heard;

    - if you want to mumble, swallowing saliva in insult, do not think, speak, but clearly, separately, according to syllables;

    Tell me, do you turn your hands and tongue yourself, or do you twist your arms so that you can make a gesture with them, and they bring you tongs in your mouth with tongs to tell you a word? So maybe electrodes have been injected into your brain and stimulate the appearance of your emotions with current? Yes? Sorry, I didn’t know that you were a reading mouse or a monkey in a laboratory! Your emotions are yours. Although, if you like it, let it remain an emotional puppet, a doll programmed by other people's actions.

    Clean your brains and train! Yes, I understand how difficult it is for a dead body or an obese mass to pull up or push up at the beginning. But if the body is trained, it can be strongly shaped and will not change, but it will be able to perform various physical exercises and undergo loads without suffering. What about your brain? Unwashed for years, dystrophic from malnutrition of mental food, or an obese hog from lack of mental movements ?!

    18. There is no willpower, I do not know my goals.

    So can you just go and hang yourself? Can go to a neighbor and ask him what are your goals? By willpower - read the rules №№ 2, 7 - 10, 12 - 16.

    By purpose. I agree, it’s hard to sit down like this and immediately formulate your goals in life. But no one demands from you that here and now you will carve them in stone forever! Use rules nos. 1 and 7.

    You can not formulate your long-term goals or goals for several years, or for several months? Or do you get them general and non-specific? Buy a three-story house, a cool car, get married, have smart and beautiful children, open a profitable business, earn 500 thousand dollars clean a year, get yourself and give your children a Western education, become a famous TV presenter, help the world, civilization, parents, brothers and sisters , to become the best hairdresser, to pump up, to learn Chinese? Something from this opera, in one variation or another? What do you think, how many people think like you? At least a couple of three billion! And how much did you reach your goal?     What is success?

    Perhaps this would be worth starting. But the point is not in sequence. And the answer to this question is for you. So what is success for you? I think that you strive for it, consciously or not, and you understand that personal effectiveness is an instrument of achievement. And until you decide, to develop a program of personal effectiveness is tantamount to intensive physical training without a clue in which sport you have to compete.

    Your success is (choose only one, sorry):
    - a lot of self-multiplying money?
    - fame and popularity, career, recognition?
    - happy family, loyal friends?
    - inner harmony and freedom?
    - struggle and victory, overcoming difficulties?
    - influence and power?

    Action program

    There are a lot of tools, concepts and approaches to the development of personal effectiveness and they all work. It’s like a set of keys to different locks, where the lock is you yourself, and the keys are tools and approaches to development. Feel free to try different keys. Do not hope to immediately find the master key! You need to grind it specially for you!

    Here we need to make another small digression.
    The fact is that in fact there are a lot of smart and not quite books on the development of personal effectiveness, on achieving success and so on. But the problem with many of these books is that, giving absolutely correct and wise things, they are not designed for the ordinary, mediocre person, which we are. If you were not mediocrity, you would not read this book, would you? So, most of these books, as if emotionally and vividly, wisely and with stories were not written, they have not helped you so far. And they won’t help. What a pity, very wise things are written there. That's just a pity, it is not written what you should do. Therefore, in order to facilitate your transition from eyes to arms and legs (bypassing the brain), that is, from smart lines of smart books to your real actions, I will give you a number of simple rules.

    Rule A. Become what you are capable of becoming.

    Who are you now? Loser and Gray? A conceited person with disgust and indignation reading these lines ?! "Six" errands, a peacock, puffing up with pride, with his Mercedes, ring, job title, dad, jeans, perfume, a pack of bucks ?!

    Rule B. Soon it will be too late, you are almost late!

    How old are you now? Fifteen? Twenty five? Do you think you have a lot of time? You are mistaken no less than that idiot that you thought you had time to quickly jump without a spacesuit from the Mir orbital station to the Shuttle in space! A vacuum broke him, even though he was able to jump very quickly !!! Why you have very little time, I’ll explain now. Suppose you are now 20 years old and you will retire (if you survive) at 60. So you have 40 years? (60 -20 = 40). No, look further. There are 365 days in a year, of which working days (not including weekends, holidays, holidays) are about 240. Multiply your remaining 40 years by 240 working days a year and get 9600 working days before your retirement. (40 * 240 = 9600). Do you think you have 9600 working days? No, look further. In a day, even if you are a very disciplined person, you will not be able to devote directly to work more than 6 hours a day. We get 57600 working hours before your retirement (9600 * 6 = 57600). And in the pure 6 years of work, do you intend to become successful? And if you really develop yourself no more than two hours a day, then what will you do? TWO years with a penny !!!

    By the way, I forgot to say, do you know what is the average life expectancy in this country? Less than retirement age! Subtract another two, three, five years, which our statistics have added to calm the soul and order. Hm. To live not until retirement, but that way until 50 -55 years at the best. In addition to sudden death from a heart attack, hypertension, lung cancer, stomach ulcers, a car moving, scrap along the skull in the stairwell, cirrhosis of the liver and other misfortunes. Death is our companion always and everywhere. You can die tonight, tomorrow afternoon, in an hour. No one knows when. And do not twitch in a fit of superstition. Sit quietly and read calmly. You will die, and I will die. We will all die sometime. I don’t scare you, I just want you to understand - every day of your life, every hour of your life should be full of meaning and benefit. What about the fact that you bought yourself cool titanium disks on a car,
    If you haven’t done anything useful, either for loved ones, or for those around you, or for your tomorrow, if it suddenly comes. Why the hell wasting days and hours when death was near? Here and look into your gut and do not be shy about your thoughts. What are you thinking? Eh, disappear everything in vain, if I don’t exist, then I don’t give a damn about everyone, I will surrender to all mortal sins ?! Yeah, thoughtfully, well done. Like 90% morons! Well, you probably forgot that you MAY be dead tomorrow, or maybe not tomorrow, but after 100 or 50 years! In short. No need to be nervous, no need to worry. Just remember death and don’t shame yourself in the grave, or what will you wallow in there - when your loved ones, relatives, colleagues and neighbors will be standing around - and what they will think about you (do not speak out loud, but think!).

    Rule B. Nothing can last forever, only your lack of money can remain unchanged until death!

    It doesn't matter what mood you are in right now. It is yours to change it in a minute, hour, day, month, year. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, just as with your mood. It doesn’t matter how many friends and grandmothers you have in your pocket now. It doesn’t matter that you are angry, hungry, unhappy, devastated, exhausted, lost. Whatever it was, in 50 years, 20, 5, or a year or a week, the situation will change. And vice versa, you can now be energetic, happy, joyful, rich, healthy, the situation will change. Whatever “ass” you fall into, whatever “hemorrhoid” you have experienced in the last days, months, or years - REMEMBER: the situation will change! It is never always black or always white. Every fool knows this, but even the smart ones cannot understand this !!! They fall into resentment, depression, hysteria, hang themselves, whine, drink, break, die from fear and grief. THESE IDIOTS! Assholes who react to the situation so sharply.
