Recently I read posts about different offices. I would like to insert my five cents. I’ll tell you about the life of Parallels from the inside :)
I don’t remember my feelings when I got settled, but for some reason people who come to us for a couple of hours immediately notice THIS. At the level of the atmosphere, how everything is organized here, how everyone communicates, and so on. In short, many people like it. Although, if we talk about the location of the office, then this is a complete ass - m. "Otradnoe" ("joyless" as it is called here).
We occupy 2 floors of this business center.
However, before we generally sat in Dolgoprudny, so one fig. Now, from Otradnoy, Rechnik and Dolgopy (from there we have a lot of employees - the proximity of MIPT affects), corporate shuttles go to the office - this saves. Someone, of course, comes by personal car.
Continuous roll-Royces in our parking lot.
You know, this bicycle parking lot was given to us with blood and sweat, because the authorities somehow didn’t assume that someone would drive it great, but such mmm ... there were enthusiasts! After moving from a longitude, many changed their place of residence and began to rent apartments in the vicinity of the office. Apparently, they are relevant.
It is very important that Parallels really appreciates the “dislike” of programmers and engineers, people of a special creative orientation, so to speak, for tight frames, therefore, in fact, everyone chooses a work schedule for himself, and the established concepts of morning and evening are pleasantly extended. So the morning lasts until 12 noon, and the evening until 10 pm. Most are satisfied.
Our hard working days:
I don’t know how strong this argument is, but I, for example, like it when there are coffee machines, tea, sweets at every step in the office. A trifle - but nice. I know companies where, for some delusional reasons, tea parties on the ground or walking with mugs along the corridors are not welcome. Even more fun where coffee and tea are sold in vending machines :) Parallels doesn’t.
The dining room is ordinary. The food is not restaurant, but not a bag of soup. Before the dining room appeared everyone had lunch at the local level. In general, it is surprising that when it appeared, there were people who wanted to continue the tradition of eating on the spot without interruption from production or something ?! But their prayers were not heeded. IMHO they did the right thing - the first, second, third, dessert and compote are easier somehow to place at the dinner table ...

Meetings on the discussion of some working moments are mainly carried out not even in negotiations, but in corridors and open spaces throughout the office. When 30 people gather, this is the whole action. Sometimes, for brevity and speed of understanding, we switch to another great and powerful language ...

guys from the kernel developers are trying to win the title of a room of high speech culture. For each obscene word a fine of 10 to 50 rubles. Money is added to the bank and then spent on cakes. Recently we expanded the price list by introducing a new option “monthly subscription” (cost 500 rubles) - presented the first subscription to a colleague in the DR (they immediately took it in bulk for six months) - now it can be “laconic” expressed for 6 months without penalty.
In general, despite the standard interior of our office suites, some of the most imaginative ones have already worked on the appearance and interior elements:
Cone, helmet, shovel and iron are sometimes used to “stimulate” the work of employees.
Parallels Desktop for Mac is popularly called balalaika. Once, in order to make it easier to materialize our idea, the leadership was presented with this very balalaika. Much time has passed since then, and the balalaika is still alive and has become our hallmark. The
plunger is real (clean of course; never used for its intended purpose) - a kind of amulet from brain blockage
As for the boss, he is quite ascetic. No reception areas made of wood and leather sofas. Asked in the "holy of holies" to photograph the office of Sergei Belousov .
A folding bed for rest
Earlier in front of Belousov’s office was a sports simulator, on which someone puffed periodically. It’s hard to imagine what kind of feelings this visitor gave birth to. But he himself is a lover of tensing not only the brain, but also the muscles :) Therefore, now simulators are available throughout the office.

It is especially worth staying at the local ladies. Imagine there are a lot of them, although I don’t remember that in software companies the female gender was in proper stock. Some even work in the Core team, where on the strength of 20 key developers. An example from the life of our girls :): I meet one in the subway. There is nothing to do, she asks: if you want, I will show photos? Of course, I agreed. I think, like all girls, they will get typical photos from Turkey now and start showing them. Right now! She takes a laptop out of her purse and starts showing how she was relaxing in Siberia (sic!) Because it’s not fun in Turkey (and the girl really likes to travel). The final question: why are you carrying a laptop - is it heavy? After the answer, people around precipitated: “Well, I still need to add the driver, but there is not a single 64-bit host at home ...
